    Timothy D. Edwards, Wayne State 1989, Megan Phillips, U.W. 2010, and Ashley Richter, U.W. 2010, have formed Edwards Richter & Phillips LLP, Madison. The firm handles legal matters for businesses and individuals in the areas of civil litigation, family law, employment law, and electronic discovery.

    Laurie A. BigsbyHorizons Law Group, Brookfield, has launched a new practice for student loan defense, led by Laurie A. Bigsby, Valparaiso 1988, who concentrates in personal finance and bankruptcy matters.

    Authors, Speakers

    Thomas A. Bailey, Marquette 1967, and Laura Lau, Marquette 1988, authored the recently revised Family Law Casenotes and Quotes (State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE® 5th ed. 2015). Bailey is retired from law practice. Lau is a Waukesha County court commissioner.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Peter G. Davis, U.W. 1975, received the 2015 Melvin Lurie Labor Management Cooperation Prize from the U.W.-Milwaukee Masters in Human Resources and Labor Relations Program. Davis is chief legal counsel for the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission, Madison, and a lecturer at the U.W. Law School.

    Dean R. DietrichDean R. Dietrich, Marquette 1977, of Ruder Ware, Wausau, is the recipient of the annual ATHENA Leadership Award presented by the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce. Dietrich is known for his expertise in legal ethics and his advocacy for early childhood development. The ATHENA awards are presented annually for professional excellence, community service, and actively assisting women to attain leadership skills.

    The Kohn Law Firm, Milwaukee, received the 2015 Community Service Award from the National Creditors Bar Association, in recognition of firm members’ volunteer activities.

    Recipients of the Milwaukee Bar Association’s 2015 Pro Bono Publico awards are the following: Patrick J. Schoen, Marquette 1975, Quarles & Brady LLC, Milwaukee; the Leander J. Foley Matrimonial American Inn of Court; and Marquette University law student Kasey Parks.

    Israel Ramon, Marquette 1994, a shareholder in the worker’s compensation and personal injury law firm of Ramon & Medrano S.C., Milwaukee, has been elected a fellow of the Wisconsin Law Foundation. Ramon is past president and a current board member of the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association, president of the Wisconsin Hispanic Conduit Inc., and a board member of the Council for the Spanish Speaking (Centro Hispano) in Milwaukee and the MKE LGBT Center.
