    Anne McIntyreAnne McIntyre, Northern Illinois 2007, has joined Renier Hotopp Law, Burlington, as a senior associate attorney, focusing on family law and mediation. McIntyre, who has experience in elder care and disability rights matters and as a guardian ad litem in child protective cases, previously practiced family law at a large firm in Wisconsin.

    The Hon. Derek Mosley, Marquette 1995, has been named the director of Marquette University Law School’s Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education. Mosley is a municipal court judge in Milwaukee. When appointed, Mosley was the youngest African-American individual to be appointed judge in the state of Wisconsin. The work of the Lubar Center advances Marquette Law School’s mission to advance civil discourse about law and public policy matters.

    Tolga Gulmen, Univ. of Cal., Berkeley 2010, is a member of the intellectual property practice group in the Madison office. Gulmen, a registered patent attorney, focuses on domestic and international patent prosecution, licensing, and strategic intellectual property portfolio development.

    Daniel Kersey, U.W. 2014, and Maciej (Matt) Pietruczak, U.W. 2013, are Milwaukee-based members of the business law practice group. Kersey focuses on mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters, representing buyers and sellers in M&A and private equity transactions, assisting clients with complex commercial agreements, and serving as outside general counsel for some clients. Pietruczak represents companies and investors in transactions, including private equity, venture capital, growth equity, and mergers and acquisitions, and serves as outside general counsel for some clients.

    Steve Kruzel, Marquette 2014, and Emily Shircel, Loyola Chicago 2010, are Milwaukee-based members of the labor and employment practice group. Kruzel represents employers in all facets of labor and employment law, including collective bargaining agreement negotiation, contract administration, arbitrations, and defense of employment discrimination cases and wage-and-hour class and collective actions. Shircel helps clients develop and manage comprehensive corporate immigration programs and provides counsel regarding I-9 compliance and worksite enforcement, including issues arising from corporate reorganizations and mergers.

Corallo, a partner working from the Wauwatosa and Fox Point offices, focuses on high-net-worth divorce, family law, and mediation matters.

    SmithAmundsen LLC and Davis|Kuelthau s.c. recently combined to form Amundsen Davis LLC. The new entity, comprised of more than 230 attorneys, operates 12 offices throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio. Amundsen Davis offers business-law services, including labor and employment, intellectual property, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, commercial real estate, cybersecurity, and tax; and estate and wealth planning for individuals. Amundsen Davis’s Milwaukee and Brookfield offices are co-managed by Joe Trevino, Marquette 2012 (formerly with SmithAmundsen) and Matt McClean, Marquette 2002 (formerly with Davis|Kuelthau). Sherry Coley, Marquette 2003, formerly a partner at Davis|Kuelthau, remains manager of the firm’s Appleton and Green Bay presence.

    Appointments, Elections

    Jennifer L. Nutt Carleton, U.W. 1996, has been appointed a distinguished fellow of the Indian Nations Gaming and Governing Program at the William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and will assist in establishing the advanced Indian law and gaming curriculum and create the first-of-its kind Indian gaming experiential learning program. Carleton is the chief legal officer of Sightline Payments and previously was in-house counsel for the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin.

    James Casey, Dayton 1988, has been reappointed for a three-year term as an American Bar Association (ABA) representative to the National Conference of Lawyers and Scientists (NCLS). The NCLS is a joint standing committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the ABA’s Section of Science and Technology Law.

    Anthony Nehls, Marquette 2006, has been appointed by Gov. Tony Evers to the Fond du Lac County Circuit Court. The appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Dale L. English, Marquette 1982. Nehls previously operated a law office in Mount Calvary, with primary practice areas including criminal defense, juvenile delinquency, child in need of protection and services, termination of parental rights, estate planning, probate, and real estate transactions. Before becoming a lawyer, Nehls served in the U.S. Army for 12 years.

    Authors, Speakers

    Michael S. Ariens, Marquette 1982, is author of The Lawyer’s Conscience: A History of American Lawyer Ethics (University Press of Kansas 2022). It is the first book to assess the assertion that the power lawyers exercise in U.S. society is justified by the profession’s dual duties to serve both clients and the public. Ariens is the Aloysius A. Leopold Professor of Law at St. Mary’s University School of Law, San Antonio, Texas.

    Rachel K. Monaco, Marquette 2004, is coauthor of a chapter, “Peace Building and Systemic Change for Survivors of Sexual Violence and Exploitation: LOTUS’s Untold Stories,” in the textbook Restorative Justice: Promoting Peace and Wellbeing (Gabriel Velez & Theo Gavrielides eds., Springer 2022).

    Monaco also completed her 19th ultramarathon in October, taking the female overall championship in the Ironbull Ultra Trail 50k, a 34-mile race on Rib Mountain with 8,000 feet of climbing, and was master’s champion at the September North Country Trail 50k in Manistee, Mich.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Catherine La Fleur, Marquette 1988, has achieved recertification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA) as a Civil Trial Law advocate. La Fleur is president of La Fleur Law Office S.C., a certified woman-owned law firm with offices in Milwaukee and Sussex.

    Kyle J. Quinn, Marquette 2007, has been admitted as a Fellow to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is a partner at McShane & Bowie PLC, Grand Rapids, Mich., and focuses on family law.

    Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. has received Mansfield Rule 5.0 Certification. Administered by Diversity Lab, the Mansfield Rule is a national initiative to close the gender and diversity gap in the legal profession. Reinhart was one of more than 160 large law firms to participate in the process, which launched on July 15, 2021. The Mansfield Rule has become the standard by which law firms track and measure that women, lawyers from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups, lawyers with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ lawyers are at least 30% of the individuals whom they have affirmatively considered for top leadership roles, senior-level lateral hiring, promotions into the equity partnership, and participation in client-pitch meetings.
