    Lauren A. Triebenbach, Marquette 2007, and Roy E. Wagner, Marquette 1978, have joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as partners in the real estate practice group in Milwaukee. Both previously were with von Briesen & Roper s.c. Triebenbach advises clients on complex construction litigation matters and counsels lenders. Wagner, who also leads the firm’s construction & construction litigation team, focuses on real estate, commercial, and construction matters. He is a former chair of the State Bar’s Construction Law Section and a board member of the Dispute Resolution Section.

    Israel Ramón, Marquette 1994, has been appointed Milwaukee County register of deeds by Gov. Tony Evers. He was sworn in May 21, 2019.

    Tatiana ShirasakiTatiana Shirasaki, U.W. 2014, has been promoted to assistant director of admissions at the U.W. Law School, Madison. Formerly, she was the program coordinator of the Immigrant Justice Clinic and the outreach specialist for South America at the graduate programs and the law school.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

    Keith James, U.W. 1989, has launched Keith James PLLC, a labor and employment law firm in Detroit, Mich. His previous work in private practice and in house at a Fortune 500 company includes extensive case management, arbitration, and trial experience.  The firm focuses on crisis management, investigations, HR advisory services, and complex employment litigation.

    Substantially all lawyers and staff of the Appleton-based law firm Silton Seifert Carlson S.C. have joined von Briesen & Roper s.c. For more than 45 years, Silton Seifert Carlson S.C. served clients in the Fox Valley, focusing on business, municipal, and litigation matters.

    Lawrence C. Silton, Northwestern 1967, is counsel with the firm. He focuses on providing tax and business advice to clients and is also a certified public accountant. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Graduate Business School and a lecturer at Fox Valley Technical College. Stephen A. Seifert, U.W. 1975, is counsel with the firm. He has experience in commercial, business, and real estate law and litigation and has been an instructor in business law at Fox Valley Technical College.

    Adam N. Skarie, Marquette 2003 (Dean’s List), is a shareholder and focuses in business planning, estate planning, and federal and state tax issues. Jared R. Stroik, U.W. 2014, is a principal associate and focuses on business, estate planning, real estate, and tax issues.

    Appointments, Elections

    John BehlingJohn Behling, U.W. 2000, has been elected president of Weld Riley S.C., Eau Claire, succeeding Steve Weld, U.W. 1972, who continues to co-chair the labor employment law section. Behling practices in frac sand, mining, and minerals; government relations; administrative and environmental; cooperative; and municipal law. He recently finished serving as president of the U.W. Board of Regents.

    James CaseyJames Casey, Dayton 1988, has been reelected as a State Bar of Wisconsin delegate to the ABA House of Delegates. He is an attorney in Washington, D.C.

    Kristine Euclide, U.W. 1976, has been elected chair of the board of WPS Health Solutions, headquartered in Monona. WPS Health Solutions administers Medicare benefits for customers in several states and runs one of Wisconsin’s largest health insurance plans. Before retiring in 2016, Euclide was senior vice president and general counsel at Madison Gas & Electric Co., Madison.

    Robert J. Misey Jr., Vanderbilt 1987, has been appointed by Gov. Tony Evers as a public member of the Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board, which promulgates rules that regulate certified public accountants and conducts disciplinary proceedings. Misey is a shareholder in the tax and corporate law practices of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. and chair of the international law practice. He serves clients in industries such as manufacturing, distribution, sports, and entertainment with international taxation and tax controversy matters.

    Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990 with distinction, has been elected to the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) board. AFCC is an international organization dedicated to resolving family conflict and improving the family court system and its outcome for children and their families. Stansbury focuses his practice in family law with Burbach & Stansbury S.C., Milwaukee.

He is a certified specialist in Family Law Trial Advocacy by the NBTA and has served as chair of the ABA Family Law Section, chair of the State Bar’s Family Law Section, and president of the Milwaukee Bar Association.

    Gilbert Southwell III, U.W. 1981, spoke at the AICPA Governmental Accounting & Auditing Conference (Eugene, Ore.) about the role of GASB financial statements in municipal securities offerings and analysis of such statements by municipal research analysts.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Colleen BallColleen Ball, U.W. 1991, has been honored by the State Bar’s Appellate Practice Section for her efforts on behalf of the section’s pro bono committee. For many years, she was chair of the committee and often its only member. She placed dozens of pro bono appeals with firms throughout Wisconsin; established the appellate help desk, a volunteer-staffed virtual help desk providing free procedural assistance to self-represented litigants in civil appeals; and piloted The Brief Assistant, a web application that allows the user to draft a correctly formatted brief that can be downloaded, saved, edited, and filed. Ball is with the State Public Defender’s Office Appellate Division, Milwaukee.

    Franklyn GimbelFranklyn Gimbel, Marquette 1960, has been awarded the Big Pi Award, the lifetime achievement award of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. Gimbel was an assistant U.S. attorney before founding the Milwaukee-based trial and litigation firm Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP in 1968 and has tried 200 jury cases over his legal career. Gimbel is a past president of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association, and the Milwaukee Rotary Club and served on the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission and as chair of the Wisconsin Center District Board, which oversaw the construction of Milwaukee’s first convention center.

    Mary Koshollek, Marquette 1993, received the 2019 Distinguished Service Award from the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin in recognition of her contributions to the organization. She is the director of information and records services with Godfrey & Kahn.

    Guy R. Temple, Northwestern 2006, has been named Veteran Leader of the Year by the Wisconsin Veterans’ Chamber of Commerce. He is a shareholder with Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee. Temple was recognized for his commitment to building a more veteran-friendly business environment and for exemplifying the value veterans bring to their communities, including partnering with the Chamber to conduct ongoing programs focused on contracting opportunities for veteran-owned businesses. Before joining the firm, Temple was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps. Temple’s litigation practice focuses on product distribution, franchising, and supply chain disputes and trust, estate, and probate disputes.

    Congratulations to Recent Certified Paralegals

    State Bar of Wisconsin Certified Paralegal logoThrough a State Bar program, paralegals in Wisconsin are eligible to be certified – a credential that demonstrates a paralegal’s dedication to professional development and excellence. The State Bar of Wisconsin Certified Paralegal program is a self-funded, voluntary program for all paralegals in Wisconsin who meet the program’s criteria.

    To be certified, the paralegals must work under the supervision of a Wisconsin-licensed attorney. They must also meet the program’s education and experience requirements, and participate in ongoing legal education to polish their skills and ensure they’re up to date on the latest changes and trends. To maintain their certification, they must meet the program’s employment practice and education requirements, including 12 hours of continuing education every two years.

    Photo placement: Submit a professional-quality photo. If the photo is used, the State Bar will issue an invoice ($35 each). Group photos are not accepted. High-resolution electronic photos are preferred.

    Deadline: The first of the month preceding publication. For example, to place an announcement in the May issue, it must be received before April 1.

    Ineligible announcements: Talks, speeches (unless they are of national stature), honors from other publications, and political announcements are not accepted.
