What professional plans do you have in addition to your law practice?

    Sam WayneSam Wayne, Madison.

I’ve enjoyed my yoga practice for a few years now and am planning to take it to the next level this year and become an instructor. Perhaps in India or elsewhere abroad but, with ongoing litigation, likely here in Madison. In addition, I’ve been kicking the tires on becoming a licensed massage therapist.

What really excites me, though, is my desire to develop a seminar for college men about respecting their female peers and treating them as equals. I plan to frame it not as a why they “should” change, which by now I believe they’ve heard, but instead try to help them realize that they’ll enjoy more fulfilling and enjoyable relationships with women if they shift their perspective and change their behavior. Just one of many ways I’d like to make a small change in the world.

Finish the sentence: I never leave home without ___, because ___.

Rebecca M. WebsterRebecca M. Webster, Oneida Law Office, Oneida.

I never leave home without my cell phone, and it’s not because of the reasons we all think of. Sure, I like to be within reach to catch a text message, check my emails, get ideas on Pinterest, or spend a few spare minutes playing a game. However, the real reason I want my phone is so that I can listen to audiobooks while I’m driving.

We all know the struggles and pressures of adequately balancing our careers with our families. We also all have our own ways of coping with stress. My coping mechanism (and guilty pleasure) is to take advantage of the time I am driving alone in the car. I love to get lost in a good story, especially ones of the apocalyptic, dystopia, paranormal, science fiction, and urban fantasy varieties. These moments of escape allow me to leave behind daily life to explore unknown parts of the universe, uncover secrets of an underground supernatural community, or set out on a quest for survival after a zombie apocalypse. For me, audiobooks are the perfect way to break away from daily life and find myself in an imagined world. I find that returning to reality becomes more manageable with these brief moments of respite.
