    Michael G. Carter, North Carolina 1988, has been promoted to vice president and chief financial officer of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Milwaukee. He previously was head of the policyowner services department.

    Donald E. Locke, Minnesota 1997 cum laude, has been appointed chief of the American citizen services section at the U.S. Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica. He is a foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State and previously served in Bogota, Colombia, and Pristina, Kosovo.

    Ann Martin C. Ann Martin, Iowa 2004, has joined the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP as an associate on the labor and employment team. She previously was with Lindner & Marsack S.C.

    Four attorneys have become assistant attorneys general with the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Joseph Ganzer, U.W. 2000, and Nancy Noet, U.W. 1994, are with the civil litigation unit. Ganzer previously was with Hodan, Doster & Ganzer, Milwaukee. Noet previously was with the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. Adam Gerol, Drake 1988, and David W. Maas, U.W. 1998, are with the criminal litigation unit. Gerol previously was Ozaukee County Assistant District Attorney. Maas previously was with the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

    John C. Cabaniss, Wayne State 1981, has opened Cabaniss Law Office, 10200 N. Port Washington Rd., Mequon, and focuses on plaintiffs' personal injury work. He previously was with von Briesen & Roper s.c., Milwaukee.

    Stellpflug, Janssen, Hammer, Kirschling and Bartels S.C., headquartered in De Pere, has changed its name to Stellpflug Law S.C. The firm also has offices in Lakewood and Hayward.

    Eunice Gibson Eunice Gibson, U.W. 1973, has been named vice president of the labor law committee of the Inter-American Bar Association. She presented a paper on "Immigrant Workers in the United States" at the association's meeting in June in Lima, Peru.

    The Sauk County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Kevin R. Calkins, Baraboo; and president-elect - Joseph J. Hasler, Reedsburg.

    Judith Sperling-Newton, U.W. 1981, has been appointed to chair the assisted reproduction committee of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. She is with The Law Center for Children and Families, Madison.

    The Tri County Bar Association (Oneida, Vilas, and Forest counties) has elected the following officers: president - Todd R. McEldowney; vice president - Michael W. Schiek; secretary - Brian F. Bennett; and treasurer - Jennifer Stuber, all of Rhinelander.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    John W. Daniels Jr., Harvard 1974, was honored by the National Bar Association, the oldest and largest national association predominately comprised of African-American lawyers and judges in the United States, at its annual meeting in Houston in July. Daniels, chair of Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee, was recognized for his professional achievements and community service.

    Correction: The Hon. John A. Neuenschwander, Chicago-Kent 1983, received the 2008 Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Municipal Judges Association. He is city of Kenosha municipal judge and a professor of history at Carthage College, Kenosha. Judge Neuenschwander's name was given incorrectly in the July issue.

    Ted M. Warshafsky, U.W. 1952, has been selected by the American Trial Lawyers Association as one of the top 100 trial lawyers in the United States. He is a partner with Warshafsky, Rotter, Tarnoff & Bloch S.C., Milwaukee.
