How the LRS Referral Process Works for Panel Attorneys
As an LRS panel member, you choose the practice areas and geographic regions where you're available to accept referrals. Our computerized system uses this information to make precise attorney-client matches based on the details you provide during registration.
When someone contacts LRS, experienced legal assistants—drawing on over 30 years of experience—conduct a brief screening to assess the caller's legal issue and financial situation. Only after this careful screening are referrals made to LRS panel attorneys.
It's important to know that only about one in four callers is referred to an attorney. The rest receive help through other channels, including:
- Referrals to government agencies or community organizations
- Basic legal advice through our
Lawyer Hotline
This process ensures that your time as a panel attorney is used efficiently, and that clients referred to you are more likely to need and value your services.

LRS Online, a 24/7 resource where potential clients can search for attorneys by location and legal need. There's
no additional cost to participate.
To support your practice, LRS invests in a robust marketing strategy to connect the public with our panel attorneys. This includes:
- A dedicated website for individuals seeking legal help
- Printed materials distributed through
courts, public libraries, and
community service agencies
- A partnership with the
Wisconsin Newspaper Association (WNA)
Through the WNA, panel attorneys can author bylined legal columns titled
“Know Your Legal Rights." These articles appear in over
200 local newspapers and websites statewide offering a valuable opportunity to build name recognition and credibility in your community. Between April and December 2022, LRS articles were published in
215 newspapers.
