Educating the Public
The State Bar of Wisconsin sponsors a variety of public education programs for students, teachers and adults.
Students have the incredible opportunity to observe oral arguments and speak with a Wisconsin Supreme Court justice afterward. High school students also have the opportunity to be on a mock trial team, and present their case before real judges and attorneys. Teachers can develop mock trial teams and act as coaches.
In Our Courts Wisconsin, judge/lawyer teams use videos and other tools to help adult audiences better understand the courts and the legal system.
The Public Education Department is also happy to assist interested teachers in finding an attorney to come to their classroom and speak on a variety of legal topics.
Mock Trial: “There is a lot of talent there that is not being developed, including students who don’t know enough about what lawyers do to consider law as a career goal. Mock Trial participation could positively influence and encourage minority students to choose law as a career goal – WI needs more minority lawyers.” - Mock Trial attorney coach
