    Plan to Attend 16th Annual Environmental Law Update

    Representatives from the Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Justice and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District and experienced environmental law practitioners will share their perspectives in a comprehensive treatment of the latest issues in environmental law during the 16th Annual Environmental Law Update.

    This full-day seminar will include updates on these and other topics: air, water, and solid waste regulations; state enforcement initiatives in environmental regulation; brownfields issues in real estate development; and how to oppose a project effectively (including a case study of the Crandon Mine project). The DNR also will report on the "State of Environmental Law."

    The live seminar is Sept. 29 in Milwaukee; the video replay is Oct. 29 at statewide locations. This program has been submitted to the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners for up to 7.0 CLE credits.     Activities Subject to Exemptions Under Act 118

    (Note: Further definition of eligibility is set forth by DNR rules.)

    • Incidental deposits up to 2 cubic yards associated with another exempt activity
    • Piers and wharfs that meet pier planner guidance
    • Seasonal structures (boat hoists, boat shelters, swim rafts) defined by rule criteria
    • Riprap up to 300 feet of repair and 100 feet of replacement
    • Fish habitat structures
    • Bird nesting platforms
    • Intake or outfall structures less than 25 percent of channel width
    • Intakes for dry fire hydrant
    • Pilings for ice deflection
    • Biological shore erosion control structures defined by rule
    • Replacement culverts: any size, if subject to the terms of a previous permit; or up to 24 inches, if no permit
    • Dredging necessary for installation or maintenance of an exempt structure
    • Manual dredging

    • Beach material
    • Limited new riprap or similar material, if replacement riprap not exempt
    • Fords
    • Boat landings
    • Limited replacement seawalls

    • Culverts crossing waterways not more than 35 feet wide
    • Grading
    • Stormwater ponds designed in accordance with standard best management practices required for stormwater management
    • Maintenance dredging, if not exempt
