Connolly is with the securities law practice group and focuses on public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions; SEC compliance and reporting; fiduciary counsel to boards of directors and management; and representation before the SEC. Patch is a member of the tax planning practice group and focuses on providing tax planning counsel to corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and individuals regarding real estate, corporate, and merger and acquisition issues.

    Bart S. Hersko, U.W. 1985, has joined Taylor & Aust P.C., Indianapolis, as of counsel, concentrating in intellectual property. He previously was a senior counsel-intellectual property with the Proctor & Gamble Co., Cincinnati.

    Michael D. Kaiser, U.W. 2004 cum laude, has joined with his father, Louis D. Kaiser, Baylor 1971, and Terry E.     David B. Kennedy, U.W. 1986, and Michael Zielinski, Marquette 2000, have joined the law department at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., Milwaukee. Kennedy, an assistant general counsel on the financial services team, previously was with a private Milwaukee investment firm.     The Hon. David A. Hansher, U.W. 1968, has been appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to the Wisconsin Judicial Commission, which investigates and prosecutes complaints against judges. Hansher is a judge on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court and is deputy chief judge for the First Judicial District.

    The Legal Association for Women has chosen the following officers: president - Rebecca R. DeMarb; president-elect - Theresa L. Roetter; secretary - Kelly Barman; and treasurer - Kristine E. Anderson, all of Madison.

    The Ozaukee County Bar Association has selected the following officers: president - Karl D. Schefft, Cedarburg; president-elect - H. Ben Levy, Cedarburg; vice president - Dennis H. Milbrath, Cedarburg; and secretary/treasurer - Donald R. Fraker, Mequon.

    Brief-writing article wins Dunn Award

    The Hon. William F. Eich is the 2003 recipient of the Hon. Charles Dunn Author Award, presented annually by the State Bar Communications Committee. His article, "Writing the Persuasive Brief," appeared in the February 2003 issue of Wisconsin Lawyer. The award will be presented at the Volunteer Lawyers Recognition program, held during the State Bar's annual convention, on May 5, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

    Judge Eich was chief judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals from 1989 until 1998 and retired from the court in 2000. He now maintains a mediation/arbitration practice in Madison.

    The award, named after Wisconsin's first chief justice, recognizes writing excellence in Wisconsin Lawyer articles.

    The following attorneys received certificates of commendation for articles printed in the Wisconsin Lawyer in 2003: Mark A. Frankel and John Mitby coauthored "Think Like a Negotiator: Effectively Mediating Client Disputes" (December 2003). Frankel is with LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn, Madison, and Mitby is with Axley Brynelson LLP, Madison. The Hon. Robert E. Kinney and Jordana Thomadsen coauthored "Examining Wisconsin Jury Instructions" (August 2003). Kinney is judge of the Oneida County Circuit Court, Rhinelander, and Thomadsen is with Knight & Associates S.C., Milwaukee.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Michelle Behnke, U.W. 1988, will receive one of six Women of Distinction awards presented by the YWCA of Madison. The awards are presented to honor women for their community involvement, integrity, and leadership. Behnke, who is State Bar president-elect, is with Michelle A. Behnke Attorney at Law, Madison.

    The Hon. Ann Walsh Bradley, U.W. 1976, has been chosen as a 2004 winner of the American Judicature Society's Herbert Harley Award, a national award reserved for individuals whose efforts and contributions result in substantial, long-term improvements to the justice system. Bradley's contributions include public speaking to schools and community groups; serving as faculty at the Justice Teaching Institute for state high school teachers; and overseeing special projects such as the traveling Wisconsin Supreme Court history exhibit. She is a justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

    Thomas A. Hendrickson, U.W. 1970, received the presidential medal from the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police for his service to the association as executive director. He was the 12th person to receive the medal in the organization's 80-year history.

    Michael Spector, Harvard 1965, received the Shield Award for outstanding service to the community from the Nicolet High School Foundation. He is with Quarles & Brady, Milwaukee.
