Connor J. Clegg, U.W. 2021, has joined Hawks Quindel S.C., Madison, as an associate. He will take leave from the firm in September to clerk for Judge Lynn Adelman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Upon his return, his practice areas will include wage and hour, class action, disability insurance, and labor.
Joshua M. Koch, U.W. 2009, and Jill R. Ray, U.W. 2012, have been promoted to shareholders at the Law Firm of Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay. Koch focuses on commercial litigation; trial work; family law, including divorce, child custody, placement, and support, maintenance, and postjudgment matters; and landlord-tenant law, representing landlords and property management companies. Ray has a general litigation practice, including breach-of-contract and warranty disputes, business torts, insurance-coverage litigation, and trusts and estates litigation.
Hayley Hetherington, Indiana Univ.-Maurer 2017, has joined Madison-based MJA LAW LLC as an associate working alongside Michael J. Anderson, U.W. 2000, and assists clients in family, employment, business, and criminal law matters. Previously she was with Hupy and Abraham S.C., working on personal injury matters.
Maxwell R. Krenke, Marquette 2020 cum laude, has joined DeWitt LLP in the Green Bay office and supports the business, banking, and real estate practice areas.
Samantha M. McCoy, Marquette 2021, has joined Godfrey, Leibsle, Blackbourn & Howarth S.C., Elkhorn, as an associate, focusing on real estate, estate planning, and business.
Michael Puerner, Marquette 2011 with honors, has been named Marathon County corporation counsel. He succeeds Scott Corbett, who has been elected a Marathon County Circuit Court judge. Puerner previously was deputy corporation counsel and before that was a Marathon County assistant district attorney.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed Timothy C. Samuelson, Indiana Univ.-McKinney 1998, as director of the Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR), replacing Keith Sellen, who led the OLR since it was established in 2000. Samuelson previously was the Civil Division Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. Before that, he was a Dane County Circuit Court judge from 2017 to 2018 and an assistant attorney general for the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Marlee Turim-Walloch, John Marshall 2020, has joined Hickey & Turim S.C. as an associate and advocates for the rights of injured workers. She previously was with the State Public Defender’s office in the juvenile division.
Brian Braziel, U.W. 2015, has been elected a shareholder of Weld Riley S.C., Eau Claire, and continues to practice with the firm’s litigation section. Jennifer N. Brown, DePaul-Chicago 2006, has joined Weld Riley as a partner and is a member of the firm’s divorce and family law section. Previously Brown was with another firm in western Wisconsin.
Mergers, Relocations, New Offices
The Milwaukee attorneys of Mallery & Zimmerman S.C. are now Mallery s.c. The firm, located at 731 N. Jackson St., Milwaukee, counsels businesses and individuals in complex civil litigation, lending, real estate, and business transactions; business receivership and bankruptcy proceedings; general business matters; regulatory matters; and estate, business, and succession planning.
Appointments, Elections
New board members of the Association of Corporate Counsel-Wisconsin (ACC-WI) are the following: DeAngela Luna, U.W. 2005, is assistant general counsel and assistant secretary at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., Milwaukee, where she is a member of the insurance products and operations team. Timothy W. Schmidt, Minnesota 2009, is senior counsel for Komatsu Mining Corp., Milwaukee, primarily supporting the surface mining division. Pranav Shah, Chicago-Kent 1999, is general counsel at WEA Member Benefits, a Madison-based financial services organization.
Newly elected executive officers of ACC-WI for 2021-22 are the following: president – Anne Dorn, Marquette 2005, managing counsel, Direct Supply Inc., Milwaukee; vice president – Paul Hinkfuss, U.W. 1985, associate general counsel, MLG Companies, Brookfield; secretary – Michael Baird, Marquette 2005, senior staff counsel, corporate legal, Fiserv Inc., Brookfield; treasurer – Pamela Stokke-Ceci, Marquette 2013, assistant general counsel, Badger Meter Inc., Milwaukee; and past-president – Danielle White, Marquette 2011, senior counsel, Rockwell Automation Inc., Milwaukee.
Brody Richter, U.W. 2006, and Theresa Roetter, Marquette 1993, have been elected to the executive committee at DeWitt LLP, Madison. Richter is a partner and is co-chair of the business law practice group. His practice focuses primarily on mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactional matters, commercial real estate, and private securities transactions. Roetter is a partner and member of the family law practice group. Her practice focuses on assisted reproduction and adoption.
Brianna J. Meyer, Marquette 2017, has been named president of the Milwaukee Young Lawyer’s Association board. Meyer is an associate at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown, Milwaukee, and practices criminal defense, civil litigation, school law matters, and special education issues.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed the Hon. William W. Brash III, Marquette 1978, as chief judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. Brash was appointed to the District I Court of Appeals in 2015 after serving on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court from 2001 to 2015. Brash replaces the Hon. Lisa S. Neubauer, Chicago 1987, as chief judge. Neubauer remains on the District II Court of Appeals.
The supreme court reappointed five circuit court judges to continue serving as chief judges of their respective judicial administrative districts. District One: the Hon. Mary E. Triggiano, U.W. 1988, Milwaukee County Circuit Court; District Three: the Hon. Jennifer R. Dorow, Regent Univ. 1996, Waukesha County Circuit Court; District Four: the Hon. Barbara Key, U.W. 1983, Winnebago County Circuit Court; District Five: the Hon. Thomas J. Vale, Drake 1981, Green County Circuit Court; and District Seven: the Hon. Robert P. VanDeHey, U.W. 1985, Grant County Circuit Court.
Awards, Degrees, Honors
Mark T. Budzinski, U.W. 2000, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is managing partner of Corneille Law Group LLC, Green Bay. Budzinski has litigated hundreds of cases in both state and federal courts and also is board certified as a Civil Trial Advocate.
Richard H. Fuller, Marquette 1993 cum laude, has completed civil mediation training through the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev., and is now conducting in-person and Zoom mediations throughout Wisconsin, in addition to his civil litigation practice at Anderson, O’Brien LLP, Stevens Point. He has also become a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
