    Kerry T. Creeron, U.W. 2011, has joined Banner & Witcoff Ltd., Chicago. He continues to focus on patent prosecution.

    Makda FessahayeMakda Fessahaye, Marquette 2014, has been appointed as the administrator for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections’ Division of Adult Institutions. She is the youngest and first African-American woman to hold this position. She previously was legal counsel for the Department of Corrections.

    Bryn I. Baker, Marquette 2018, and Alexa C. Bradley, Marquette 2018, have joined First, Albrecht & Blondis S.C., Milwaukee. Baker practices in civil rights, employment law, and personal injury. Bradley practices in civil rights, employment law, worker’s compensation, and personal injury.

    David Carr, Marquette 2006, Mary Beth Hughes, U.W. 2002 and Marci Kawski, U.W. 2011 cum laude, have been elected partners with Husch Blackwell LLP. Carr is with the real estate, development, and construction team in the Milwaukee office. He concentrates in complex commercial litigation matters. Hughes is with the technology, manufacturing, and transportation teams in the Milwaukee office. She focuses on worker’s compensation matters. Kawski is with the financial services and capital markets team in the Madison office. She focuses on consumer financial services matters.

    Laura M. LyonsLaura M. Lyons, Marquette 2005, has joined Dean Health Plan Inc., Madison, as a staff attorney. She also is serving a one-year term as president of the Wisconsin Association of Worker’s Compensation Attorneys.

    Maryam GhayyadGini HendricksonMaryam Ghayyad, U.W. 2012, and Gini Hendrickson, Pace 2002, have been named shareholders with Murphy Desmond S.C., Madison. Ghayyad, who is fluent in Spanish and English, practices immigration and nationality law, including family-based, individual, and employment immigration. She also represents clients in divorce and family law. Hendrickson’s practice emphasizes business law, estate planning, tax law for businesses and individuals, real estate, probate and trust administration, and business succession planning. She chairs Murphy Desmond’s estate planning and probate practice group.

    Kelly S. Kuglitsch, DePaul 2002, and Laura J. Lavey, Marquette 2010, have been elected shareholders of O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong & Laing, Milwaukee. Kuglitsch is with the employment law practice group and concentrates on employee benefits and compensation law for employers, plan administrators, fiduciaries, and service providers, consultants, and advisors.

    Lavey is with the litigation practice group. She represents clients in the prosecution and defense of civil litigation matters in state and federal court, primarily in commercial and business litigation.

    Christina PetersonChristina Peterson, Marquette 2003, has joined Hanaway Ross S.C., Green Bay, as an associate. She focuses on business and corporate law, estate planning, probate, collections, elder law, real estate, and appeals.

    Vincent J. ScipiorVincent J. Scipior, U.W. 2011, has been promoted to shareholder at Coyne, Schultz, Becker & Bauer S.C., Madison. He concentrates in all types of civil litigation, including personal injury, professional negligence, employment law, and insurance defense.

    Steffanie A. Walczak, Marquette 2012, has been promoted to shareholder at Petit & Dommershausen S.C. She focuses on family law in the Menasha office.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

    Jennifer Lee Edmondson, U.W. 1986, is founder and CEO of Health, Education & Welfare, Appleton, a new 501c(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide innovative health, education, and social welfare programs and services. The nonprofit’s achievements include several firsts for Wisconsin: a conference specifically for lymphedema survivors; establishment and presentation of an award recognizing excellence in lymphedema advocacy, the Shellie Stellrecht Award; and establishment of a lymphedema financial aid fund.

    Miles G. LindnerDavid J. BischmannMiles G. Lindner, U.W. 1994, and David J. Bischmann, U.W. 1991, founders of Lindner Law LLC in 2018, after taking over the Wisconsin personal injury practice of Hausmann-McNally, S.C., have moved their Milwaukee office to the ASQ Center, 648 N. Plankinton, Suite 418.

    Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. has opened an office in Minneapolis, the firm’s eighth office nationally. Pamela H. Nissen, Minnesota 1995, has joined the firm in the new office and is a shareholder in the employee benefits practice and Taft-Hartley group. She represents fiduciaries and plan sponsors on the administration of employee benefit plans, with a primary focus on representing Taft-Hartley multiemployer plan clients.

    Daniel J. Schauer, Marquette 2011, has returned from teaching in Europe to practice law with his father, Richard M. Schauer, Marquette 1983, at 2211 10th Ave. Suite A, South Milwaukee. Their practice is focused on probate, elder law, and real estate.

    Appointments, Elections

    Michael W. DrumkeMichael W. Drumke, U.W. 1991, has been nominated to the American Bar Association board of governors for a three-year term. His practice at Swanson, Martin & Bell LLP, Chicago, focuses on complex business litigation, including toxic tort, products liability, pharmaceutical, class action, and commercial litigation. He is national trial counsel in mass tort litigation and has served as national coordinating counsel for manufacturers in asbestos-related litigation and lead counsel for several premises owners.

    Michael A. LeveyMichael A. Levey, Michigan 1982, LL.M. (taxation) Florida 1983, a partner in the health law and business law groups at Quarles & Brady, Milwaukee, has been named president of the Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund for 2019.

    Hon. Michael P. Maxwell, Marquette 2001, has been appointed an adjunct instructor by the Carroll University School of Business, Waukesha, for the spring semester. He is on the Waukesha County Circuit Court.

    Kevin LongKatya ZelenovskiyKevin Long, Marquette 1992, and Katya Zelenovskiy, Marquette 2008, have become managing partners of the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP. They replace Katie Perhach, Marquette 2000, recently appointed to a 14-year term as a judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Long is a litigator in real estate, construction, and commercial litigation. He was national chair of the firm’s commercial litigation group (2008-16) and is a member of the executive committee. Zelenovskiy is with the business law practice group, assisting private equity clients and middle market family-owned businesses with complex commercial transactions.

    Jeffrey A. PitmanKatherine E. MetzgerJeffrey A. Pitman, Marquette 1990, and Katherine E. Metzger, Marquette 2015, have authored Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect and the Nursing Home Reform Act: An Overview, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys Journal (Fall 2018). Pitman and Metzger focus on representing victims of nursing home abuse and neglect at Pitman, Kalkoff, Sicula & Dentice SC, Milwaukee.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Christie A. Linskens Christie, Marquette 1987 cum laude, has been accepted for membership into the American Physiological Association. She is an adjunct professor of law at Marquette University Law School and a staff attorney, guardian ad litem division, at the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee.

    Christopher M. SchererChristopher M. Scherer, John Marshall 1999, was recognized by Lexology in its 2019 Client Choice Awards – Excellence in Client Service. Scherer is a partner in the Metro Milwaukee office of DeWitt LLP and co-chair of the intellectual property group. His practice areas include electrical and electronic circuits and systems, computer software, medical devices, medical patient monitoring and treatment technology, device fabrication, optical devices and systems, and mechanical devices. He also is in-house corporate counsel on a contract basis for some clients.

    Deborah C. Tomczyk, U.W. 1994, has received the J. Michael Mooney Award from NAIOP Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. The J. Michael Mooney Award is presented for extraordinary leadership of NAIOP Wisconsin and the advancement of the commercial real estate industry in Wisconsin. Tomczyk is chair of the NAIOP Wisconsin Public Policy Committee and leads the Commercial Real Estate of Wisconsin Political Action Committee. She is a shareholder and chair of the real estate practice and entitlements group at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee, and focuses on all aspects of real estate development, including government relations, zoning, land use, eminent domain, licensing, tax increment financing, and business improvement districts.
