State Bar Programs

Below are some of the programs that we administer. You can find many more opportunities to volunteer in our State Bar Pro Bono Portal. Please contact us if you have questions.

Pro Bono Portal

We worked with the pro bono pros at Paladin to develop this easy to use online portal that lets you search for volunteer opportunities by county, area of practice, type of work or the clients involved.

Modest Means

Attorneys who join the Modest Means Panel agree to provide legal services at reduced cost to moderate income clients who have been pre-screened for eligibility. Join the panel today; it's easy and there is no cost to join.

Military/Veterans

Through our Legal Assistance for Military Personnel project, you can help servicemembers and veterans with their legal issues in Wisconsin. We also encourage members to volunteer with the ABA Military Pro Bono Project. Through that project, JAG offices worldwide pre-screen legal matters for deployed service members that are then referred through the ABA to attorneys willing to help in a particular state.

Wills for Heroes

Volunteer attorneys and support personnel prepare basic estate plans for eligible first responders (police, fire and EMT's) at locally organized legal clinics.

Anti-Bias Pro Bono Panel

The Lawyer Referral Anti-Bias Pro Bono panel provides victims of hate crimes and harassment with referrals to attorneys who will provide a limited scope consultation at no-cost to help the caller determine their legal rights, resources for reporting hate crimes and harassment, and to get answers to questions on how to pursue their complaint with law enforcement and the criminal or civil justice systems. LRIS has created a referral system where callers can quickly identify their issue and get referred to an attorney on a pro bono basis.

Disaster relief legal assistance

When disaster strikes, whether it is flooding, a tornado or something else, Wisconsin lawyers are often needed to provide brief counsel and advice to affected individuals, families and businesses. Working together with the State Bar's Young Lawyers Division, FEMA, Wisconsin Emergency Management and others, the State Bar provides a toll free legal hotline for disaster victims to call for appropriate referrals, (877) WISLAW1 or (877) 947-5291.
