Biography/Comments

Hello! My name is Danielle Kranz, and I’m running for President-elect of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the State Bar of Wisconsin.

While born and raised in Wisconsin, I attended law school in Minnesota. Prior to that, I worked at two firms in Madison and had built up a small legal network. Upon moving away, the connections I’d built faded. This left me in a tough position once I moved back to Wisconsin to take the bar exam and search for a job. Despite eventually landing that first full-time job, it struck me that, if I wanted to continue to develop as an attorney, I’d need to start rebuilding my legal network.

Enter the Young Lawyers Division.

In 2012, despite not knowing anyone, I attended the Young Lawyers Leadership Conference (YLLC), primarily because I had decided to run for the YLD board to start building my network. I was appointed to a seat and served my first term. I then ran for treasurer in 2014, and again in 2015 for the board. In this term, I volunteered to co-chair the 2016 YLLC, the YLD’s biggest event.

Throughout my service to and within the YLD, I maintained my commitment to address the concerns and needs of young lawyers, particularly those in rural areas. Additionally, I am serving on the Challenges Facing New Lawyers Committee, which is independent of the YLD and allows me to address these concerns in yet another manner.

I am asking for your vote so I can continue addressing these challenges, particularly in terms of finding jobs, building a professional network, and managing student loan debt. I am always open to speaking with anyone regarding issues and concerns. I pledge to maintain open communication amongst the various committees and groups so as to best facilitate implementing real changes and programs that will begin to address the issues we face as young lawyers.

I hope to earn your vote, and look forward to seeing you at the 2016 Young Lawyers Leadership Conference on April 1 at the Monona Terrace Convention Center!
