Young Lawyers Division
The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is for State Bar members under 36 years old or in their first five years of practice. The YLD provides leadership training and networking opportunities. It also encourages its members to be active in the State Bar, local and specialty bar associations, and communities. YLD presents the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award and Outstanding Mentor Award.
The
Outstanding Young Lawyer Award pays tribute to a young lawyer who has made an impact in his or her practice area, in service to the State Bar of Wisconsin, and in service to the community.
This year's recipient is
Lisa Procaccio, Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Milwaukee County Office of Corporation Counsel. As Assistant Corporation Counsel, Attorney Procaccio expertly advocates for the most vulnerable residents in guardianship matters for adults with disabilities and mental illness. She is the primary appellate attorney on the County's mental health commitment team, and she works tirelessly to make sure that County residents are provided the essential services that keep individuals at risk and the community at large safe and well.
Attorney Procaccio works with the bench and bar to formulate new approaches to benefit those working in mental health and is actively involved in regular meetings with stakeholders in the mental health arena. She listens and educates with the goal of fostering healthier outcomes. Marquette University Law Professor Anne Berleman Kearney describes her as “an excellent lawyer who works hard to serve the bar and the community."
According to Jennifer O'Neill Hemmer, “Lisa is everything you would want to have in a teammate. She is knowledgeable, patient, reliable, and supportive. She does not hesitate to step in when coverage is needed, lend an ear when things are tough, or bake macarons for a special occasion in the office. Lisa's impact as a public servant, a representative of our profession, and as a friend and colleague is innumerable, and she is very deserving of this award."
