Outstanding Mentor Award

The Outstanding Mentor Award recognizes a Wisconsin attorney who has made an exceptional contribution to the life and career of a young attorney.

Jason Luczak, a partner with Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP, Milwaukee, is this year's Outstanding Mentor Award recipient. He is recognized for his commitment to passing on his knowledge, experience, and training to law students and young practicing attorneys throughout Wisconsin.

Attorney Luczak leads the trial and appellate criminal defense team at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown. He is a 2008 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was a member of their nationally recognized trial team. He now pays that experience forward by coaching the Marquette National Moot Court Competition team. Luczak is also an adjunct associate professor of law, teaching the trial skills competition course at Marquette University Law School.

Attorney Luczak is a frequent commentator on CourtTV and serves as co-chair of the Criminal Law Section of the Milwaukee Bar Association. He is a past President of the Milwaukee Young Lawyers Association (MYLA), has served on the board for Sharp Literacy, and has been recognized as a Wisconsin Super Lawyers Rising Star for the past several years. He has also been honored by the Wisconsin Law Journal as one of the first “Legal All-Stars" and as a Rising Star in the Law by the BizTimes.

Importantly, Attorney Luczak has encouraged other attorneys to dedicate their time to helping mentor younger lawyers. A recipient of his mentorship, Katherine M. Halopka-Ivery writes: “I would often channel Attorney Luczak's ability to be kind, informative, and encouraging when passing on the skills he taught me to young litigators."
