Charles Dunn Wisconsin Lawyer Achievement Award

Communications Committee

As the editorial board for the Wisconsin Lawyer magazine, the State Bar’s Communications Committee presents the Hon. Charles Dunn Author Award to recognize writing excellence in the magazine. The award is named in honor of Wisconsin’s first Supreme Court Chief Justice.

For the November 2022 article, “Highlighting a Hidden Legal Issue: Transnational Marriage Abandonment,” this year’s Dunn Award winner is Kelsey Mullins. In reviewing Attorney Mullins’ article, a Communications Committee Judge wrote: “Our state’s immigrant and refugee communities face unique legal challenges. The explanation of transnational marriage abandonment in Attorney Mullins’ article highlighted an issue all Wisconsin lawyers should be aware of and offered practical tips on using legal strategies to empower survivors.”

Attorney Mullins practices law with End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin in Madison. Her practice focuses on legal issues affecting survivors of domestic violence, in particular immigrant survivors and survivors of human trafficking. She is a 2021 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School.
