Attolles Law, a dynamic boutique law firm in the heart of Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, seeks a lateral attorney with significant experience in education law to join established school law team representing public, charter, and private schools with their unique needs. We are specifically focused on the needs of the education industry and provide representation across all legal disciplines impacting school districts such as pupil issues and student rights, employment matters, general business concerns, real estate, public finance, all aspects of open government and transparency, and litigation. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and talented attorney to join our firm’s Milwaukee office (though our work takes us to all corners of Wisconsin).
Responsibilities:
- Advise and represent school boards and educational entities on a wide range of legal matters including, but not limited to, pupil issues, student rights, employment law, board governance and transparency, regulatory compliance, policy development, and general business matters.
- Draft and review legal documents including employment and statutory contracts, business services agreements, policies, and advisory memoranda.
- Represent clients in court proceedings, mediation, and before government agencies in matters related to student issues, employment disputes and general litigation.
- Provide training and guidance to school board members and school administrators on a variety of education law issues.
- Conduct investigations into education, workplace, and student matters involving alleged legal and policy violations and prepare investigatory memoranda summarizing findings and options.
- Collaborate with clients and team members to provide timely and substantive legal counsel for navigating evolving educational laws and state and federal mandates.
Attorney Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license and in good standing with the Wisconsin State Bar.
- Minimum seven years of experience practicing education law, preferably representing school administration and governing boards.
- Ability to manage matters independently while providing oversight and strategic legal counsel to clients.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated commitment to timely and responsive communication with clients.
- Ability to take a proactive and directive approach in problem-solving.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously and appropriately prioritize and adhere to strict deadlines.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and properly handle sensitive information.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other legal professionals and support staff.
