    Claims Legal Assistant

    ​Description

    Rural Mutual Insurance Company is hiring a Claims Legal Assistant to provide administrative support to Claims Department attorneys and staff. Duties include supporting our in-house attorneys, scheduling, and preparing, formatting, and uploading claims-related documentation.

    This position offers a hybrid work schedule and the candidate must be able to work at the Rural Mutual home office in Madison, WI, two or three days per week.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides administrative support to Claim Department attorneys and staff.
    • Assists with daily office operations (i.e., scheduling meetings, distributing mail, submitting orders, processing payments, and creating reports).
    • Prepares and uploads various legal documents, such as certified policies, summonses and complaints, reinsurance documentation, claims major reports, and recorded statements.
    • Answers the phone, takes messages, directs or redirects calls, and handles claim-specific inquiries.
    • Organizes, files, and distributes claim office mail to claims staff.
    • Supports Rural's adjusters by distributing mail, posting payments, gathering and sending legal documentation, including reservation of rights letters.
    • Processes claim files and department invoices, payments, and posts recovery checks to the claim system.
    • Works with outside counsel on department claim files by transferring file materials and maintaining Claims legal databases and suit/litigation reports.
    • Enter and update 1099s in the claims system.
    • Organizes and plans Claim Department activities, including dinners and conferences.
    • Schedules and makes travel reservations and arrangements for claim trainings and meetings.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Two to five years in law office administrative or paralegal roles.
    • Knowledge of insurance law and industry practices a plus.
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
    • Exceptional organizational skills.
    • Ability to operate a personal computer and proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
    • Capable of working independently with little guidance.
    • Ability to prioritize and work on tasks simultaneously while paying close attention to detail.
    • Comfortable receiving and implementing feedback and a willingness to learn and adapt to new situations. 

    Compensation

    $55,000 - $65,000 yearly, depending on experience
