Centro Legal seeks an experienced family lawyer to join our team as Supervising Attorney. For over 30 years, Centro Legal has provided free and nearly free legal services for clients earning low incomes in the greater Milwaukee area. Our mission emphasizes services for survivors of domestic abuse, who make up over 65% of our family law clients each year. Our small staff of seven is highly collaborative and extremely collegial.
A successful Supervising Attorney will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a collaborative practice style. They will maintain a full caseload of family law representation and guardian ad litem appointments, supervise Centro Legal’s staff attorneys and legal assistant, and work with the Executive Director to meet internal and external metrics and priorities. Alongside the Executive Director, they will liaise with our Board of Directors, community partners, and funders to maintain and improve our programs and processes. Above all, they will strive to provide a positive experience for clients, to lead and support the Centro Legal team, and to maintain a low-ego, mission-focused work environment.
Centro Legal offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, short-term disability insurance, paid parental leave, a 401(k) program with employer match, 15 days of unrestricted vacation annually, and paid holidays. The salary range for this position is $55,000-60,000 annually depending on experience.
Must have a law degree from an accredited law school, be licensed to practice law in Wisconsin, and be a member of the State Bar in good standing. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills. 3-5 years of family law experience, prior experience working in a civil legal aid setting, and Milwaukee County GAL certification preferred. 25% of our clients are Spanish-speakers, making Spanish fluency an asset in this position.
