    Position Summary

    This Attorney position conducts administrative hearings in unfair labor practice, election/unit clarification, State civil service personnel, and declaratory ruling cases and prepares findings of fact, conclusions of law and orders for issuance or for Commission consideration.  In addition, this position will conduct grievance arbitration hearings and issue final and binding grievance arbitration awardsand mediate collective bargaining disputes between unions and employers.

    Salary Information

    Starting pay is between $78,686 and $120,785 per year, depending on qualifications, plus an exemplary benefits package

    The classification title for this position is Attorney Confidential (schedule 71, range 01). A 12-month probationary period will be required. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit; it is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

    Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

    Travel: Occasional to frequent travel is required, including some overnight travel. 

    Remote work: Employees with approved remote and hybrid-remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. High-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.

    Criminal histories: We also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. A minimum of four to six years' experience as either a government attorney or a private attorney with government clients preferred and with a significant practice in several or all of the following areas of government law: child support collection and paternity, guardianship/protective placement, juvenile, involuntary civil commitments and zoning. Experience in investigation and interviewing is desirable.
