on worker's compensation law.
David J. Walsh, U.W. 1974, was named a Distinguished
Fellow by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors at a
conference in Amman, Jordan, in October. He is executive vice president
and general counsel at SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Co., New York
City.
The Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund (WEJF) honored two Wisconsin
attorneys at a dinner in November. The Hon. Patricia D.
McMahon, Emory 1968, received the Howard B. Eisenberg Lifetime
Achievement Award for her outstanding efforts in the development and
delivery of pro bono legal services. She is with the Milwaukee County
Circuit Court. Jeffrey Spitzer-Resnick, Boston College
1985, received the WEJF Distinguished Service Award. He is managing
attorney with the Wisconsin Coalition for Advocacy.
Pro Bono, Public Service
Members of the Barron County Bar Association, led by President
Mark O. Dobberfuhl, U.W. 1972, and Barron County
Circuit Court judges and staff members dedicated a plaque and planted an
oak tree in memory of SPC/4 Paul Sturino, who was killed in Iraq in
September. Sturino was the son of Christine L. Wetzel, a court reporter
for the Barron County Circuit Court.
Godfrey & Kahn S.C. has established the Godfrey
& Kahn Fellowship in Law, which annually will provide a full
three-year scholarship to a Legal Education Opportunities Program
participant who enrolls in the U.W. Law School. Each recipient also will
receive mentoring and be employed as a summer associate at one of the
firm's five offices. The first recipient is C. Wade Harrison.
Winners of the eighth annual Lynford Lardner Community Service Award,
awarded by Foley & Lardner LLP to firm employees
for significant civil and volunteer involvement, are Richard
Gallagher, Harvard 1967, Bruce Keyes, U.W.
1990, and Penny Wagner. The firm makes a $5,000 donation for each award
winner. Gallagher is a partner in the tax and individual planning
department. Keyes is a senior counsel in the regulatory department.
Wagner is a legal secretary.
