Ashland firm celebrates centennial
Clark & Clark Attorneys at Law, Ashland,
celebrated 100 years of legal service at a ceremony at the Ashland
County Courthouse on Feb. 19. Current firm members are Dale R.
Clark, U.W. 1951, and his son Scott W. Clark,
Marquette 1978, who also is Ashland city attorney. Founding members of
the firm in February 1904 were Albert W. Sanborn, Frank B. Lamoreaux,
and Allan T. Pray. Dale Clark joined Pray and his son Theron in 1952.
The founders' accomplishments included service in the State Assembly,
the development of agricultural communities centered in Moquah and
Benoit, representation of railroads, and involvement in a celebrated
case, State v. Dietz, in which a settler seized a dam that held
back logs belonging to lumber baron Frederic Weyerhaueser.
Among the descendants of founder Allan T. Pray is John
Pray, U.W. 1986, codirector of the Wisconsin Innocence Project,
U.W. Law School. Seven members of the Pray family have attended the U.W.
Law School.
