Karen Bauer, U.W. 2009, has joined Amundsen Davis LLC’s Business Litigation Service Group as senior counsel in the Milwaukee office. Bauer advises and defends financial institutions and lenders. As a former consumer protection litigator, she is experienced at managing every aspect of the litigation lifecycle and has deep experience advising clients on statutory interpretation and regulatory implementation. Bauer also advises individuals on student loan debt issues and frequently presents and writes about higher education financing and student loans.
Megan L. Drury, Marquette 2021, has joined Burbach & Stansbury S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate. Drury practices exclusively in family law, including divorce actions, including property division, legal custody, and physical placement; paternity actions; adoptions; and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
Allysa Brown, U.W. 2018, and Carly Thiel, Illinois Chicago 2024, have joined HKK Law Offices, Mequon, Random Lake, and Sheboygan. Before entering family law, Brown was a Milwaukee County assistant district attorney, handling misdemeanor and felony criminal matters. Her diverse legal background also includes experience in civil law, Social Security matters, and serving as a staff attorney for various national retailers. Thiel focuses her family law practice on divorce, guardian ad litem work, paternity, and CHIPS matters.
Four attorneys have joined Nelson Defense Group, Hudson. Keith Belzer, Loyola Chicago 1992, brings over 30 years of experience in criminal defense and is a nationally recognized lecturer and teacher on criminal defense issues, trial techniques, and strategies. He is on the faculty at the National Criminal Defense College and the Wisconsin Trial Skills Academy and has taught in most of the 50 states and is a frequent commentator on national, statewide, and local legal issues, appearing on nationally syndicated shows including 48 Hours, Good Morning America, Crime Scene Investigation, The O’Reilly Factor, and Geraldo at Large.
Mac Blessen, U.W. 2023, has joined as an associate and focuses exclusively on criminal defense, with an emphasis on the defense of OWI cases.
Emma Campion, U.W. 2023, has joined as an associate and focuses on a wide range of criminal defense matters, with an emphasis on CHIPS, Title IX, and restraining order cases.
Liesl E. Nelson, U.W. 1996, is a partner focusing on criminal defense. Nelson has nearly 30 years of experience in criminal defense, including over 20 years with the Wisconsin State Public Defender, and has extensive experience working with treatment courts and other collaborative criminal justice initiatives.

Jane Limprecht’s (U.W. 1980) short story “Game of Drones,” about a custom drone-fighting game gone awry, is included in the crime fiction anthology The Most Dangerous Games, published in August 2025 by Level Best Books. Limprecht started writing fiction after retiring from the U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for U.S. Trustees in Washington, D.C. Her crime short stories appear or are forthcoming in four anthologies and Kings River Life Magazine.
