Legal Action of Wisconsin and its Volunteer Lawyers Project awarded Foley
& Lardner the Law Firm Award in honor of its volunteer work for
the organization and its clients. The award recognizes the firm's
outstanding contributions to and support of legal services to low-income
persons and recognizes these attorneys for their pro bono work: (in the
Madison office) Allen A. Arntsen, Michael S. Heffernan,
Marta T. Meyers, John S. Skilton, and Katherine Stadler;
and (in the Milwaukee office) Lisa M. Arent, Ann C. Becker,

The Hon. Thomas E. Fairchild, U.W. 1938, senior judge
on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and Irvin
B. Charne, U.W. 1949, a partner in the Milwaukee law firm
of Hall, Charne, Burce & Olson S.C., recently were awarded
the American Inns of Court Professionalism Award for the Seventh
Judicial Circuit. The award is presented annually to a legal
professional in each of the nation's 12 judicial circuits
"whose careers at the bar and on the bench have exemplified
the values of civility, devotion to duty, and courage."

M. Hlavacka , Marquette 1987, won the
Wisconsin 1999 Small Business Legal Assistance of the Year award,
presented annually by the U.S. small business community. Hlavacka
is a member of the business organization department of Reinhart,

Joseph M. Fasi II, Stetson 1983, has been board-certified
as a civil trial lawyer by The American Board of Trial Advocacy.
He practices with the Milwaukee firm of Peterson, Johnson &
Murray S.C. He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Florida.
John E. Lange, U.W. 1975, a career member of the Senior
Foreign Service, has received the Distinguished Honor Award for
his "skilled leadership of the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam
in the aftermath of the Aug. 7, 1998 bombing." Lange was
in charge of U.S. government operations in Tanzania when a terrorist
bomb exploded on the public street in front of the embassy, killing
11 people and injuring 85.
