Mark Amadeo, U.W. 1996, LL.M. Georgetown, has joined
Sprenger & Lang, Washington, D.C., as an associate. He previously
was with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation as an attorney for the
Office of the General Counsel.
Douglas Baker, Creighton 1989 cum laude, has joined
the State Bar of Wisconsin as a legal editor with the CLE Books
Department. While at Creighton, Baker was a member of both the Law
Review and the Moot Court Board. He has served as a law clerk for the
U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, has been in private
practice, and most recently served as a judicial clerk with the Nebraska
Court of Appeals.
Paul N. Bley, U.W. 1980, LL.M.-Labor G.W.U. 1984,
has joined the Department of Defense's TRICARE Management Activity,
Office of General Counsel, Falls Church, Va., as the associate general
counsel (personnel law and administrative services). He previously was
with the Office of General Counsel, Defense Contract Audit Agency, Fort

Clifford D. Bobholz, Hamline 1979, has joined the
Baraboo office of Quale, Hartmann, Pulsfus & Groeneweg S.C., working
primarily in corporate, estate planning, business, and employment law.
He previously was a magistrate in Iowa, and a corporate attorney with
Menard Inc.
Jill Hutchinson Bollettieri, U.W. 1995, has joined
the legal department of General Mills Inc., Minneapolis, focusing on
software, technology, and e-commerce transactions, as well as food,
advertising, and marketing law. She formerly was an associate at
Leonard, Street & Deinard P.A., Minneapolis.
Mathew E. Corr, U.W. 1997; Cobby J. Shereff,
Benjamin N. Cardozo 1979, LL.M.-Trade Regulation N.Y.U. 1983;
and Mollie A. Newcomb, Marquette 2001, have joined
Boyle, Fredrickson, Newholm, Stein & Gratz S.C., Milwaukee, as
associates.
Prior to joining the firm, Corr and Shereff were associates with
Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall LLP. Newcomb has genetics research
experience and is eligible to sit for the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office registration examination.
Christopher J. Brown, U.W. 1986, has become a
director of Thomas Miller P&I Ltd., London, England, managers of the
United Kingdom Mutual Steam Ship Assurance Association (Bermuda)
Limited, the largest marine liability insurer. After a period in London,
Brown will be based in Hong Kong, responsible for claims operations in
Asia. Brown's emphasis is on cargo transportation, funding of oil
spills, and other marine environmental liabilities.
Charles G. Curtis Jr., Chicago 1982, has joined
Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe LLP's Madison office, in the
environmental and intellectual property litigation national practice
groups. In addition to his appellate litigation practice, Curtis will
continue building his national practice in Native American law,
environmental and natural resources law, and intellectual property
litigation.
Curtis has played a key role in lawsuits defining the historic treaty
rights and present-day regulatory powers of several tribes, and has
extensive experience handling Indian law issues before federal, state,
and tribal tribunals. Curtis previously was with Foley & Lardner,
where he served as national chair of that firm's appellate practice
group.
Frank T. Pasternak, John Marshall 1994, has joined
Domnitz, Mawicke & Goisman S.C., Milwaukee and Kenosha, as an
associate practicing in personal injury.
Robert L. Jaskulski, Marquette 1988, also with
Domnitz, Mawicke & Goisman, was elected an associate with the
Wisconsin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Charles P. Fischbach, U.W. 1967, has been asked to
speak on "Differences Between Labor and Employment Disputes
Arbitration," at the Seyfarth Shaw Symposium, held this year in Chicago,
Boston, and Los Angeles.
Peter J. Walsh, DePaul 1998, LL.M. - Taxation
University of Florida 1999, has written an article entitled "Save
Transfer Taxes with Family Limited Partnerships" published in the June
2001 Tax Strategies (an RIA publication).
Pro Bono, Public Service
The La Crosse Bar Association's annual golf outing benefits Jim's
Grocery Bag Fund at the La Crosse Community Foundation. The fund was
started by attorney Jim Gokey of Johns, Flaherty & Rice, La Crosse,
because many students at Hamilton Elementary School were going hungry
when school was out. Gokey organized food drives at La Crosse law firms
for the Hamilton Food Pantry to help the children. An endowment was
established at the La Crosse Community Foundation when Gokey died in
1998.
Awards, Degrees, Honors
Bell, Gierhart & Moore S.C., Madison, announces
its 150th year of legal service in Wisconsin. Levy Baker Vilas founded
the firm as Vilas & Remington in 1851.

Daniels |
John W. Daniels Jr., Harvard 1974, will receive the
2001 Human Relations Award from the National Conference for Community
and Justice (NCCJ). NCCJ is dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry, and
racism in America, and promotes understanding through advocacy, conflict
resolution, and education. Daniels is a partner in Quarles & Brady
LLP, Milwaukee, and a member of the firm's management committee.
Carl W. Gilmore, U.W. 1994, was named Young Lawyer
of the Year from outside Cook County by the Illinois State Bar
Association for his community and law-related activities. He has served
on the American Cancer Society Board-McHenry County Unit, as secretary
of the Woodstock Morning Rotary Club, and assists the local Cub Scouts.
He is a member of the editorial board for the ABA's Family
Advocate magazine and of the Illinois State Bar's committee on
law-related education. Gilmore is with Mohr, Mangiamele, Bruce, Gilmore
& Hafferkamp, McHenry, Ill., practicing in family law.
William J. Katt, Marquette 1978, received the
Defense Research Institute's Outstanding State Leadership Award for his
dedication and service to the nation's defense bar. Katt, president of
Leib & Katt S.C., Milwaukee, focuses his practice on litigation of
federal and state cases, including general liability, product liability,
aviation accidents, fair dealership, trade secrets, and other commercial
litigation.
Robert W. Kohn, U.W. 1959, has been certified by
U.W.-Milwaukee in mediation and negotiation. Kohn's focus in mediation
and negotiation matters includes contract law, landlord/tenant issues,
and family law.
Mark McGarvie, Marquette 1981, received a research
grant from the Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy to work on his
third book, an intellectual biography of noted jurist and law professor
St. George Tucker. His work on the project commenced this spring at the
College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.
Julie A. Rausch, Marquette 1993, has been admitted
to the Commercial Law League of America, North America's premier
organization of bankruptcy and commercial law professionals. The league
and its members are invited regularly to provide expert testimony before
Congressional committees and other administrative agencies. Rausch is
with Rausch, Sturm, Israel & Hornik S.C., Milwaukee.
Joseph J. Shutkin, U.W. 1952, LL.M. 1953, was
awarded life membership in the law school old guard of the George
Washington University. Shutkin recently returned to the U.S. after 12
years practicing law in Jerusalem, Israel.
U.W. Law School Clinical Associate Professors John
Pray, U.W. 1986, and Keith Findley, Yale 1985,
have been jointly named "Lawyer of the Year" by the Milwaukee Bar
Association in recognition of the success of the Wisconsin Innocence
Project. The project, which Findley and Pray codirect, is a program of
