Rose M. Allen, William Mitchell 1998 magna cum
laude, has joined Mudge, Porter, Lundeen & Seguin S.C., Hudson, as
an associate practicing in family law and general practice.
Christopher J. Brown, U.W. 1986, has been appointed
director of claims in the Arendal, Norway, office of Assuranceforeningen
Gard. He previously ran the Hong Kong office. The company underwrites
marine liability risks for ocean-going vessels. Brown recently spoke on
international marine pollution liability issues at the annual meeting of
the Australian and New Zealand Maritime Law Association in Brisbane,
Australia.
Brian Henning , Marquette
1999, has joined Johnson Trust Company, Racine, as assistant vice
president and trust officer. He is responsible for personal trust
relationship management for the Racine/Kenosha area. Henning previously

John A. Cabranes, U.W. 1996, formerly a shareholder
in the Law Offices of Cabranes & Gutierrez S.C., Racine, has become
a partner in the Racine law firm of Hartig, Bjelajac, Cabranes &
Koenen. He will continue practicing in criminal defense and labor
law.
Meredith W. Ditchen, Marquette 1997, opened
Cordle & Ditchen LLC in Woodstock, Ga. The firm
practices in civil litigation, criminal defense, small business

Scott M. Fuhr, U.W. 1997, has joined the corporate
practice team at Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Green Bay. Fuhr previously was
with Silton, Seifert, Carlson & Gamble where he practiced corporate,
tax, and estate planning law.
Erika S. Baurecht, Marquette 1996, and Ajay
V. Kuttemperoor, Boston 1996, have joined Hurtado S.C.,
Brookfield, as associates. Baurecht will practice in real estate,
construction contracting, and alternative dispute resolution. She
previously was an environmental planner and regulatory advisor in Los
Angeles. Kuttemperoor will practice in construction and real estate law.

Kenneth J. Hanshaw, U.W. 1986, has joined Allstate
Insurance Company as assistant counsel in the business law and corporate

John D. Finerty Jr., Marquette 1992, was elected

Jonathan D. Rosenblum, Northwestern 1991, has joined
Haus, Resnick and Roman LLP, Madison. He will continue to represent the
International Labor Rights Fund on the White House anti-sweatshop task
force (the Apparel Industry Partnership), develop programs to monitor
labor conditions in factories of multinational corporations, and
practice labor and employment law. Rosenblum previously was with
Gessler, Hughes and Socol, Chicago, and is the author of Copper
Crucible: How the Arizona Miners' Strike of 1983 Recast Labor-Management
Relations in America.
David Satola, U.W. 1986, was promoted to senior
counsel in the legal department of the World Bank. He continues to work
with legal and regulatory reform and privatizations in
telecommunications in the developing world.

Eric G. Johnson, Hamline 1982, was appointed to the
Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board. Johnson has been St. Croix
County District Attorney since 1984 and has served two terms as
president of the Wisconsin District Attorney's Association.
Todd K. Martens, Harvard 1988, has been appointed
Washington County District Attorney by Gov. Thompson.
Susan Kelley , Catholic
University of America 1979, has been elected chair of the State Bar of
Wisconsin Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Creditors' Rights Section. Kelley
is a partner with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Madison,
concentrating on commercial transactions, UCC law, and commercial
litigation. |
Joyce Ann Seiser, U.W. 1980 cum laude, has been
appointed regional attorney of the National Labor Relations Board's
(NLRB) Milwaukee regional office. The NLRB administers and enforces the
National Labor Relations Act. It conducts secret-ballot elections for
employees regarding union representation and it investigates and
remedies unfair labor practices.
The State Bar of Wisconsin Family Law Section has elected the
following officers: chair - Christopher D. Walther,
Milwaukee; chair-elect - Marjorie H. Schuett, Madison;
vice chair - Cheryl Gemignani, Waukesha; and secretary

Linda Barth and Mike Gonring ,
Partners for Survival Awards; David Dreis, the
Individual Attorney Award; and Foley & Lardner, the
Law Firm Award.
Quarles & Brady LLP has received the Volunteer
Lawyers Project Millennium Award from Legal Action of Wisconsin's
Volunteer Lawyers Project for many years of pro bono services on behalf
of low-income individuals.
Awards, Degrees, Honors
Linda Roberson, U.W. 1974, and Linda S.
Balisle, U.W. 1979, are listed in the Best Lawyers in
America, 1999-2000 edition.
Alex Gulotta, Marquette 1984, has received the 1999
Virginia Legal Aid Award from the Virginia State Bar's Access to Legal
Services Committee. One legal aid attorney in Virginia receives the
annual award for innovation, experience, and excellence in advocacy on
behalf of low-income clients. As executive director of
Charlottesville-Albermarle Legal Aid Society, Gulotta has worked on
several major consumer law cases that have altered questionable
government and business practices. He provides extensive representation
to low-income residents.
Prof. June
Weisberger, University of Chicago 1963, received the 1999
Marigold Melli Achievement Award. The annual award, presented by the
Legal Association for Women in Dane County, recognizes outstanding
professional achievements of women in law. The award was established to
honor Prof. Marigold Melli, one of the first women law professors in
Wisconsin. Weisberger joined the U.W. Law School faculty in 1974, when
women law professors were uncommon. She became a leader in research and
teaching, and has made many contributions to legal education and to the
development of the law. Weisberger helped craft Wisconsin's Marital
Property Act, which was adopted in 1985. |
Robert L. Habush, U.W. 1961, has received the 1999
Harry M. Philo Award. The Association of Trial Lawyers of America
honored Habush for "dedicating his career to safeguarding the rights of
individuals, championing the American civil justice system, and serving
as a protector of the public good."
Tracy I. Nightingale, Hamline 1991, was selected as
a leading American attorney by the American Research Corporation in
personal injury, alternative dispute resolution, and estate planning.
Nightingale also will appear in the millenium issues of Who's Who in
the World, Who's Who in American Law, and the National
Registry of Who's Who. She concentrates in personal injury and
estate planning at the Hurwitz Law Firm in St. Louis Park, Minn.
Lynn Stathas , U.W. 1988, a graduate of Leadership
Greater Madison (LGM), received the 1999 Distinguished Leadership Award,
sponsored by the National Association for Community Leadership and by
Sprint. The award recognizes leadership program graduates who have made
significant and notable contributions to the betterment of their
community and who embody the spirit of, in this case, LGM. Stathas is a
civil litigation and employment law shareholder at Reinhart, Boerner,
VanDeuren, Norris & Reiselbach S.C., Madison.
The Trial Science Institute (TSI) has received the
grand prize for training facilities and classrooms in Presentations
Magazine's 1999 Best Presentation Rooms Awards. Criteria for the award
included the use of presentation technology, integration of the
technology into the room design, and the room's aesthetics. The TSI
facility, located at 1000 N. Water St., 23rd Fl., Milwaukee, provides a
way for attorneys to develop cutting-edge techniques when handling
trials. The facility is available to outside lawyers and companies, and
to individuals for meetings or video conferencing.
Timothy L. Vocke, U.W. 1973, graduated from the
mediation course sponsored by the Wisconsin Supreme Court and put on by
faculty members from the National Judicial College. Vocke practices with
Eckert, Kost & Vocke, Rhinelander, and is a reserve judge. Course
graduates are certified in civil mediation.
