Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson, Indiana Univ.-Bloomington 1956, received an honorary doctor of law degree from Roger Williams University Ralph R. Papitto School of Law, Bristol, R.I., in May.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler, U.W. 1977, received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from his alma mater, Lawrence University, Appleton, in June.
Michael J. Gonring, Marquette 1982, was chosen as "Lawyer of the Year" by the Milwaukee Bar Association. Gonring, a partner and products liability litigator with Quarles & Brady LLP, was honored for his long-term commitment to providing pro bono legal services.
Eileen Hirsch, Virginia 1977, received the ABA's Living Hall Juvenile Justice Award in San Francisco in August. She is assistant state public defender in the Madison appellate office. She was honored for her positive and significant contributions to children and the juvenile justice system.
The domestic abuse injunction advocacy team at Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee, received the Exceptional Pro Bono Partnership award from Legal Action of Wisconsin's Volunteer Lawyers Project for its efforts to provide legal services to low-income clients. Team members are Michelle Gran, Northwestern 2003; Autumn Kruse, U.W. 2002; Adrienne Olson, Marquette 2003; Celestina Owusu-Sanders, Northwestern 2004; Natalie Remington, Marquette 2003; Rachel Schneider, U.W. 1995; and Jeremy Westlake, Marquette 2005.

Pro Bono, Public Service
John W. Daniels Jr., Harvard 1974, chaired the 2007 Fellowship Open, a charity golf event whose proceeds are used to support youth organizations in Milwaukee. Daniels is a partner at the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.
