New Hires, Promotions, Partners

Jennifer L. Anderson, U.W. 1999, has joined Heuer Law Offices S.C., Milwaukee, and focuses exclusively on creditors' rights and collections. She previously was with Kershek Law Offices.

Philip Ankel, U.W. 1994, has become export control attaché for the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security, Hong Kong. He previously was a senior attorney in the Bureau's Office of Chief Counsel.

Dana R. (Zickerman) Bartocci, U.W. 2001 cum laude, has joined Maslon Edelman Borman & Brand LLP, Minneapolis, as professional development coordinator.

Swapna Deshpande, U.W. 2006, has joined Murphy Desmond S.C., Madison, as an associate and focuses on bankruptcy, business law, and civil litigation.

Thomas M. Domer, U.W. 1983, has been promoted to adjunct professor at Marquette Law School, where he teaches the worker's compensation course. His practice with Domer Law, Milwaukee, is limited to representing injured workers in worker's compensation matters.

Christine C. Duval-Senty, Hamline 1997, has been promoted to senior director of legal services and administration at Dean Health Plan Inc., Madison. She previously was director of legal services.

Matthew S. Geimer, U.W. 2005 cum laude, has joined Geimer Law Offices S.C., Green Bay, and focuses on elder law, estate planning, and probate.

Arthur Gollwitzer III, U.W. 1994 cum laude, has joined the Chicago office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as a partner in the intellectual property litigation practice group. He previously was an assistant United States attorney in the Southern District of New York.


Carr	Witte	Villa

David B. Carr, Marquette 2006, and Edward B. Witte, Vermont 1989 cum laude, have joined the Milwaukee office of Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP. Carr is an associate and focuses on litigation. Witte is a partner in the environmental law group and previously was with Foley & Lardner LLP. Jesús J. Villa, Duke 1998, has been promoted to partner and focuses on employment law.

Kristin Cafferty, Marquette 1994, Christopher Duesing, Drake 1995, and Brenda Tremble, Marquette 1994, have been elected shareholders in Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. Cafferty is with the Racine office, Duesing is with the Lake Geneva office, and Tremble is with the Wausau, Rhinelander, and Stevens Point offices. Eric J. Ryberg, U.W. 2006 cum laude, has joined the Madison office as an associate.

Hocking

Wendy A. Hocking, U.W. 1989, has been appointed secretary of the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors, Washington, D.C., and is the first woman to hold this position. She previously was chief counsel for ethics and federal requirements.

Patricia J. Kaeding, Chicago 1992, has joined GE Healthcare, Waukesha, as senior regulatory counsel for global operations. She previously was with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and Godfrey & Kahn S.C.

Connie Korth, Marquette 2002, has joined the Milwaukee office of Gardner Carton & Douglas LLP as an associate and focuses on labor and employment counseling and litigation.

Christopher R. LaBrie, Pettit 2003, has joined Consigny, Andrews, Hemming & Grant S.C., Janesville, as an associate.

Thomas Lange, Marquette 2005, has joined Kirchner & Buchko S.C., Sheboygan, as an associate.

Autumn Nero, U.W. 2006, has joined the Madison office of Heller Ehrman LLP as an associate.

Sven Skillrud, Marquette 2005 cum laude, has joined Hewitt Associates, Lincolnshire, Ill., as a legal consultant and focuses on executive compensation issues. He previously was with Deloitte Tax LLP, Milwaukee.

Rolv Slungaard, U.W. 1982, has joined the New Richmond office of Bakke Norman S.C. and will continue to focus on plaintiffs' personal injury matters and business and employment litigation. He previously was a partner with Doar, Drill & Skow, Baldwin.

John S. Swimmer, U.W. 1998, has joined the Indian nations law practice group in the Milwaukee office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C. He previously was solicitor general for the Mille Lacs Bands of Chippewa Tribe.

John G. Goller, Gonzaga 1998, and Rebecca H. Simoni, Minnesota 1999 cum laude, have been promoted to shareholder at von Briesen & Roper s.c., Milwaukee. Goller focuses on insurance coverage, products, and environmental matters and school law. Simoni focuses on business law and bankruptcy.

Edward J. Ward, Marquette 1976, a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley, has joined the wealth advisor's group at the Wauwatosa office.

Akerman Senterfitt, Miami, Fla., has acquired Wickwire Gavin, including its Madison office with resident attorneys Robert J. Smith, U.W. 1974, and Hugh Anderson, Stanford 1982. Both attorneys focus on construction law. Akerman shareholders include Timothy McDermott, Nebraska 1975, and David Otero, U.W. 1986.

Martha C. Carlson, Marquette 2003, has opened the Law Office of Martha C. Carlson, Burlington, focusing on criminal, juvenile, and family law. She previously was an associate at Stupar, Schuster & Cooper S.C., Milwaukee.

Michael C. Trudgeon, Marquette 2003, has opened Trudgeon Law Office, 2101 Riverside Dr., Beloit, focusing on estate planning, business formation, and elder law.

Kim Marie Wacek, Hamline 1987, has formed Anglo American Legal Consultancy, which assists American law firms and English barristers and solicitors with trans-Atlantic personnel transfer matters.

The Association for Women Lawyers has elected the following officers: president - Deborah A. Krukowski; president-elect - the Hon. Mary E. Triggiano; secretary - Catherine R. Grogan; and treasurer - Margo S. Kirchner, all of Milwaukee.

Carol B. Dabner, U.W. 1995, has been appointed by the Texas Supreme Court to the state's Guardianship Certification Board. She is with Underwood, Perkins & Ralston P.C., Dallas, and focuses on guardianships, probate, and elder law.

Greg Scallon, U.W. 1977, and Sandy Swartzberg, U.W. 1977, have been elected cochairs of the business practice group at DeWitt Ross & Stevens s.c. Scallon focuses on business, mergers and acquisitions, real estate and land use, and estate planning and probate in the Madison office. Swartzberg focuses on business, mergers and acquisitions, and estate planning and probate in the Brookfield office.

Richard W. Graber, Boston 1981, has been appointed U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic by President George W. Bush. He is CEO of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. and chair of the Wisconsin Republican Party.

Margaret (Peggy) Ahne Herlitzka, Marquette 1989, has been appointed La Crosse County Assistant Family Court Commissioner. She is a partner with Hale, Skemp, Hanson, Skemp & Sleik, La Crosse, and focuses on family and personal injury law.

The Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers has elected the following officers: president - Kirk B. Obear, Elkhart Lake; president-elect - Tracey A. James R. Johnson, U.W. 1987, and Robert J. King Jr., William Mitchell 1980, have been reelected to the board of Lommen, Abdo, Cole, King & Stageberg P.A., with offices in Minneapolis and Hudson.

Robert A. Schnur, Harvard 1963, has been appointed a visiting adjunct professor at the Cornell Law School for 2006-07. He is a senior partner in the tax practice group at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee.

The Wisconsin Intellectual Property Law Association has elected the following officers: president - Richard T. Roche, Milwaukee; president-elect - John H. D'Antico, Waukesha; and secretary/treasurer - Joseph T. Leone, Madison.

The Wisconsin State Attorneys Association has elected the following officers: president - Jacquelynn B. Rothstein; vice president - Paul L. Barnett; secretary - William H. Ramsey; and treasurer - Jesús Q. Garza, all of Madison.

Authors, Speakers

John J. Schulze Jr., Marquette 2004, has authored "Caveat E-Emptor: Solutions to the Jurisdictional Problem of Internet Injury," American Journal of Trial Advocacy (Spring 2006). He is with ATC Management Inc., Waukesha.

Awards, Degrees, Honors

DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., with offices in Madison and the metro Milwaukee area, was named one of the top three law firms statewide by readers of Corporate Report Wisconsin magazine.

Howard W. Bremer, U.W. 1949, received the Jefferson Award from the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association in June. The award is presented annually to one outstanding contributor to intellectual property law in the United States. Bremer, patent counsel emeritus at the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, Madison, was recognized for his influence on technology transfer between universities and private companies.

Six attorneys with the Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP were named to the "InBusiness Executive Register" by Greater Madison InBusiness magazine in honor of their professional and community involvement. Recognized attorneys are Linda H. Bochert, U.W. 1974, David A. Crass, U.W. 1991, Richard Z. Kabaker, Michigan 1959, Richard A. Latta, U.W. 1986, Tod B. Linstroth, U.W. 1973, and Gregory J. Lynch, Iowa 1994. The firm has been ranked by IP Law & Business as one of the top 20 law firms in the nation for patent litigation in terms of the number of cases filed in 2005.
