Sept. 4, 2019 – The State Bar of Wisconsin G. Lane Ware Leadership Academy will help you develop your leadership skills and become a better lawyer, says graduate Eileen Dorfman of Bell Moore & Richter S.C., Madison.

“The Academy is a wonderful place to focus on strategic goals for showing leadership and the methods for achieving those goals,” Dorfman said. “It really helped me understand where I should spend additional energy to grow my practice.”

The Leadership Academy is a multisession training program – with three two-day sessions in November, February, and April – that fosters leadership skills in Wisconsin lawyers.

Dorfman participated in the 2018-19 Academy. On a daily basis, she uses the time management and mindfulness tips she learned during the class sessions.

In addition to her practice as a lawyer, Dorfman is currently serving a two-year term as president of the Legal Association for Women. She used takeaways from the Academy to help balance the activities in her life during her tenure as president. “It really helped me put into perspective what activities or time investments are most important to me, that I needed to pare down other activities to give my focus to this role,” she said.

Overall, lessons Dorfman learned during the Academy helped her advance her ability to listen thoughtfully and to communicate her expectations more clearly to others she works with. “It also gave me the opportunity to reflect on what kind of a leader I would like to be in the future,” she said.
