'Stay Steady': The State of Health Law 2017

Sept. 20, 2017 – The health care industry is undergoing massive changes, regardless of the politics in Washington, D.C. And whether efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act are ultimately successful, there are some key trends that won’t likely change in the industry, says David Cade, CEO of the American Health Lawyers Association.

For lawyers working with clients in the health care field, “the focus should be on doing what you can with your clients to expand opportunities to be more innovative in outreach” and increase the client base, says Cade. In particular, health care providers should continue to use technology more efficiently to “drive the cost of health care down, expand health care reach, and improve access.”

Lawyers should, of course, follow legislative developments, says Cade, but don’t neglect the day-to-day management of clients or trends in the marketplace. “The innovation market is driving the change, the technology is driving the change [in health care],” says Cade.

Bottom line, stay steady and follow the marketplace.
