Legal Association for Women

LAW is a Dane County-based association of lawyers and other legal professionals concerned about how the law affects women and issues affecting women in legal and law-related professions.

LAW bylaws provide that "any person subscribing to the purpose of the Association" is eligible to join. LAW welcomes as members all genders as well as non-lawyers who share its goals.

LAW holds monthly luncheons with a presentation for CLE credit, as well as three annual events:

  • I Resolve (Winter) — A New Year's resolution-themed silent auction to benefit Dane County's Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS)
  • Melli Award Reception (Summer) — Each year, the Marygold Melli Award celebrates an outstanding individual who has made substantial contributions to the interests of women in the law; has achieved professional excellence, and has contributed significantly to the eradication of gender bias in the legal system. The award honors University of Wisconsin Law School Professor Marygold "Margo" Shire Melli (1926-2018), a distinguished teacher, prolific scholar, parent of four children and contributor to her profession and her community. Nominations are typically due in April.
  • Meet & Mingle (Fall) — An opportunity to connect law students with legal professionals from many different practice areas in Dane County.

Please see LAW's website for more information on its events and other activities.
