    The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is currently recruiting for an Attorney position within their Office of General Counsel (OGC). OGC acts as legal counsel for WisDOT and works closely with WisDOT leadership to provide guidance on a wide variety of legal issues. We are looking for an independent, experienced attorney to join our team and work on a wide range of topics in the areas of including but not limited to agency administration, contracts, rules, grants, claims, personnel, and highways. This position is on the westside of Madison at 4822 Madison Yards Way.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin prior to the application deadline.

    Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

    • Conducting legal research and making determinations based on legal research in the areas of contracts, administrative law, government grants, budgets, claims, statutory interpretation.

    • Preparing formal legal documents, such as contracts, leases, pleadings, affidavits or legal briefs.

    • Providing legal representation in the areas of contracts, administrative law, government grants, budgets, claims, statutory interpretation.

    • Drafting, reviewing or revising law, legal policy, or administrative rules.

    In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will have experience with one or more of the following:

    • Providing legal representation in the areas of governmental operations and administration.

    • Administering or applying transportation policies and programs.

    • Preparing and defending claims including briefing, witness testimony, cross-examination, and argument for court or administrative hearings.

    • Representation of clients in a fast-paced time sensitive environment.
