WHAT YOU'LL DO
As the Director–Staff Counsel, you’ll have the opportunity to establish a solid foundation with Sentry by performing the following:
- Oversee nationwide Staff Counsel operations while managing legal expenses to ensure business units meet profit and growth objectives
- Develop and maintain processes and standards to meet service expectations
- Collaborate with Staff Counsel and additional leadership members on business unit decisions
- Determine corporate staff counsel policy, proper protocols with clients and claims, and audit standards
- Manage financial resources including developing, administering, and assuring conformance to the annual department budget
- Deliver administration of human resource-related activities, and ensure adherence to human resource policies and practices
WHAT IT TAKES
- Juris Doctorate from accredited legal institution
- Licensed and in good standing with state Bar
- 10+ years of trial experience as first chair defense and or coverage
- Background in liability law, including exposure to auto and general liability
- Experience in products liability, construction defect, and coverage litigation a plus
- Successful management and leadership experience of a law firm including attorneys and support staff operations
- Good organizational, human relations, and communication skills
- Skills with Microsoft Office products, legal billing, and case management systems such as ProLaw, Lexis/Nexis, etc.
- Ability to travel without significant notice as required by the job (approximately 25%)
