Nilesh P. Patel, U.W. 2002, is the 2006 recipient of the Hon. Charles Dunn Author Award, presented annually by the State Bar Commuiniations Committee.

He is being honored for his article "When Lovebirds Split: Dividing the Retirement Nest Egg at Divorce - Properly Dividing Pension Benefits" (Oct. 2006). In selecting Patel's article, the Dunn award subcommittee said: "It's not easy to write good prose. It is also not easy to explain complex legal issues ... and Atty. Patel did both in the best article published during 2006."

Patel is an advisor in the U.W. Law School's Career Services Office and principal attorney in the Mahadev Law Group LLC, Waunakee, which focuses on employment law issues. He is a former staff member of the Upper Midwest Pension Rights Project.

The Dunn award, named after Wisconsin's first chief justice, recognizes writing excellence in Wisconsin Lawyer articles. The award will be presented at the Volunteer Lawyers Recognition program, held during the State Bar's Annual Convention, on May 9, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Milwaukee.

The following attorneys also received certificates of commendation for articles printed in the Wisconsin Lawyer in 2006: Jennifer L. Peterson, U.W. 2001, for skillfully exploring and explaining a new avenue of information for the legal profession in "The Shifting Legal Landscape of Blogging" (March 2006). She is an associate at LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn, Madison. Sverre David Roang, U.W. 1994, and Brian T. Larson, U.W. 2005, coauthors, for providing a clear guide for legal planning in an extralegal partnership in "Estate Planning for Unmarried Couples: Life Partners, Legal Strangers" (Nov. 2006). They practice estate planning and business law at Stroud, Willink & Howard LLC, Madison.
