    The supreme court has increased to 11 the number of Board of Bar Examiners members by adding two public members.

    In the Matter of the Amendment of the Supreme Court Rules: SCR 30.01(1): Board of Bar Examiners

    Order 00-01

    The court held a public hearing on its proposal to amend SCR 30.01(1) to increase from 9 to 11 the number of members it appoints to the Board of Bar Examiners by adding 2 public members. The court has considered the presentations at that public hearing.

    IT IS ORDERED that, effective the date of this order, 30.01(1) of the Supreme Court Rules is amended to read:

    SCR 30.01(1) Board of bar examiners.

    (1) A board of bar examiners consisting of 9 members appointed by the supreme court is created. Five of the members of the board The board shall consist of 11 members as follows: 5 shall be members of the bar of this state., Four members of the board 3 shall be selected from the judiciary of this state, and the faculty of the law schools of this state, and 3 shall be selected from the public at large. Members shall serve staggered terms. The initial term of a member is 3 years; a member may serve not more than one successive 3-year term. Each member shall serve until a successor is appointed and qualified. The board shall select its chairperson and any other officers. The members of the board shall serve without compensation but shall be paid their reasonable and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

    IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that notice of this amendment of the Supreme Court Rules shall be given by a single publication of a copy of this order in the official state newspaper and in an official publication of the State Bar of Wisconsin.
