    Katherine Charlton, Vermont 1983, a partner in the Milwaukee/Madison firm of Shneidman Myers, has received the Volunteer Lawyer of the Year Award from the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. Charlton worked to expand the resources available to the ACLU in the Milwaukee legal community. She has served as a member of the ACLU Lawyers Committee since 1986, participates in fundraising for the organization, and served one term on the Milwaukee Chapter's Board of Directors.

    SteilGeorge K. Steil Sr., U.W. 1950, has been named chair of the board of directors at Westland Savings Bank in Tomah. He has served on the board since 1987. Steil is the president of Brennan, Steil, Basting, and McDougall S.C., Janesville. He is a past president of the U.W. Board of Regents, the State Bar of Wisconsin, and the American Bar Association. He also is a life fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates.

    Michael F. Hupy, Marquette 1972, Milwaukee, has been certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocates.

    Laurie J. Levin, U.W. 1981, of counsel in the Orlando, Fla., office of Baker & Hostetler LLP and a member of the firm's national health care team, was presented the Best Healthcare Attorney in Orlando award by Florida Medical Business. Nominees are evaluated in leadership, healthcare market savvy, quality health care, and cost efficiency. Levin also was elected to a second term as president of the Seminole County unit of the American Cancer Society.

    Cynthia K. Thurston, William Mitchell 1995 cum laude, was named a 1999 "Rising Star" by her peers in the legal profession. Thurston is an associate of McCollum, Crowley, Vehanen, Moschet & Miller Ltd., with offices in Rice Lake, Wis., and Minneapolis, Minn. She practices in insurance defense representing employers and insurers in worker's compensation matters.

    RomeroErnesto Romero, U.W. 1990, has digitized all family law legal forms into free Web pages. Unrepresented litigants in divorces, annulments, legal separations, child support, and custody cases may download the forms anytime from his Web site. Romero also is digitizing paternity, restraining orders, and national legal forms.

    Michael D. Leffler, Marquette 1988, and Steven C. Gabert, West Virginia 1986, personal injury attorneys, have opened Action Law Offices S.C., 2675 N. Mayfair Rd., Ste. 110, Milwaukee. Their Racine office is at 1020 W. Boulevard in the Newport Building. Leffler previously was with Daniel P. Kondos S.C., Milwaukee, and Capwell & Berthelsen S.C., Racine. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the Milwaukee Bar Association. Gabert previously was with Daniel P. Kondos S.C. and served as a judge advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers.

    James F. Boyle, Marquette 1984, John P. Fredrickson, DePaul 1985, Michael J. Gratz, U.W. 1994, Timothy E. Newholm, George Mason 1992, David D. Stein, Detroit 1991, and Timothy J. Ziolkowski, Marquette 1993, have formed Boyle, Fredrickson, Ziolkowski S.C., with offices at 250 Plaza, 250 E. Wisconsin Ave., Ste. 1030, Milwaukee. The firm practice is limited to intellectual property, including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, and unfair competition law, and related licensing and litigation. Boyle, Fredrickson, Newholm, and Stein formerly were with Nilles & Nilles S.C.; Gratz and Ziolkowski formerly were with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C.

    Susan R. Tyndall, Marquette 1985, Ned J. Czajkowski, U.W. 1972, and Steven W. Martin, U.W. 1973, have formed CMT Legal Group Ltd., P.O. Box 708, Waukesha. All formerly were with Hinshaw and Culbertson.

    David A. Hudec, Marquette 1988, and Victoria A. Oleniczak, University of Dayton 1992, formerly of Hudec Law Offices S.C., have joined Linda L. Gray, Northern Illinois-Dekalb 1982. Their practice now is known as Gray, Hudec & Oleniczak LLP and is located at 2847C Buell Dr., East Troy. The firm concentrates in family law, real estate, personal injury, worker's compensation, social security, and municipal law.

    The Milwaukee law firm Hausmann-McNally S.C. has opened a Madison branch office. The office is located on the Capitol Square at 22 N. Carroll St. The firm practices exclusively plaintiff personal injury law.

    Robert E. Leib, Boston 1976, will serve as president, CEO, and lead consultant of the newly formed Leib Group LLC, Mequon. The company will provide services to international major and minor league sports teams, private and public ownership groups, facility operators, and entertainment groups. Leib, also a CPA, formerly was with Arthur Anderson LLC. William S. Miller, Marquette 1996, joins the firm as vice president/professional sports, and April R. Anderson, Marquette 1999, as a consultant.

    Sager & Pavlick S.C. and Colwin Law Office have merged their practices. The new firm is Sager, Colwin, Pavlick & Associates S.C., practicing at 201 S. Marr St., Fond du Lac.
