James T. Barry III, University of Chicago 1989, has been named president of James T. Barry Co. Inc./Colliers International, a Milwaukee-based commercial and real estate brokerage firm. The Barry Company is the Milwaukee affiliate of Colliers International which provides commercial real estate services in major markets worldwide.

James R. Cauley, Minnesota 1980 magna cum laude, has been appointed group general counsel of SPX Corporation in Waukesha. He is responsible for the DeZurik, Best Power, Lindberg, GFI/Genfare, Metal Forge, and Waukesha Electric Systems business units.

Craig A. Fieschko, U.W. 1994, and Joseph T. Leone, Marquette 1992, have been named members of DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., Madison, in the firm's west office. Fieschko and Leone are registered patent attorneys and practice in the firm's intellectual property practice group. Fieschko focuses on securing patents in the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts, and maintains an extensive trademark practice. Leone focuses on securing and litigating patents in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology fields, and maintains a trademark practice.

Peter R. Dohr has moved his office from the firm's west to its Capitol Square location at 2 E. Mifflin St., Suite 600, Madison. Dohr practices in business law, real estate development, and other land use matters.

William Ryan Drew, Marquette 1966, has been reelected vice chair of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. He also was recently appointed executive director of the Milwaukee County Research Park Corporation. Drew is of counsel with the Milwaukee law firm of O'Neil, Cannon & Hollman S.C. He concentrates his practice in municipal and real estate development law, and assists businesses and individuals with zoning and municipal regulatory issues and land use development.

Anthony S. Earl, University of Chicago 1961, a Quarles & Brady LLP partner and former Wisconsin governor, has been appointed to another two-year term on the state's Clean Air Act Advisory Committee. He also will serve as a cochair of the subcommittee on climate change and as a member of the subcommittee on accidental spills. Earl also is chair of the Center for Clean Air Policy and director of the Great Lakes Protection Fund.

Michelle R. Elfers, U.W. 1994, and William J. Caplan, U.W. 1996, have formed Elfers & Caplan LLC, with offices at 900 John Nolen Dr., Suite 210, Madison. Caplan moves from a position as corporate counsel at Epic Systems Corp. to join Elfers' solo immigration practice. The firm will focus exclusively on immigration law and other legal issues of interest to the immigrant community.

James W. Fransen, U.W. 1975, has been appointed legislative counsel of the U.S. Senate. As legislative counsel, he heads an office of 25 attorneys who draft federal legislation for the Senate. He will continue as one of the principal drafters of federal tax legislation.

Mark J. Gelhaus, U.W. 1989, recently accepted a position as tax counsel with Briggs & Stratton Corp., Wauwatosa. Gelhaus, an attorney/CPA, is working in local, state, federal, and international taxation.

Timothy Harper, U.W. 1978, is the author of Moscow Madness, published by McGraw-Hill, a book about Americans trying to do business in the new Russia legally despite inherent corruption and the lack of business law in particular and the rule of law in general. This is his ninth book.

Sonja Davig Huesmann, Hamline 1994, has joined Huesmann Law Office in Holmen, practicing with her husband, Mark A. Heusmann, North Dakota 1994. The firm provides general practice representation including personal injury, bankruptcy, family law, criminal defense, and probate and estate planning.

Stephen P. Hurley, Illinois 1972, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a partner in the Madison firm of Hurley, Burish & Milliken S.C.

The Republic of Austria has established a consulate in Milwaukee with responsibility for the State of Wisconsin, and has appointed Robert J. Kalupa as honorary consul. Kalupa, U.W. 1958, is a retired partner of Quarles & Brady LLP, Milwaukee. The consulate office is located at 411 E. Wisconsin Ave., Suite 3000.

Lisa F. Kinney, Hamline 1989, has been named head of the new Ironwood, Mich., office of Minneapolis-based Cousineau, McGuire & Anderson, Chartered.

Tori Lynne Kluess, Marquette 1991 magna cum laude, has become a partner with Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay. She practices in intellectual property, computer and business law, and estate planning and adoption law.

Mark S. Knutson, Loyola 1978, formerly of the Law Offices of Mark S. Knutson S.C., Brookfield, and Joseph S. Heino, Marquette 1982, formerly a partner of Denny & Yanisch, Elm Grove, have established the law office of Knutson & Heino S.C. at 13105 W. Bluemound Rd., Brookfield. Martha A. Lundin, Marquette 1996, continues as an associate of the firm. Timothy W. Schelwat, Drake 1997, has joined the firm as an associate.

Carol E. Krigbaum, Marquette 1988, has established her own practice in Whitefish Bay. She emphasizes real estate law, but also continues her general practice in family law, wills, criminal/traffic, consumer bankruptcy, and juvenile law.

Richard M. Lavers, Michigan 1972 cum laude, general counsel of Coachmen Industries Inc., in Elkhart, Ind., has been elected secretary of the company. He also is of counsel to Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. on international transactions.

Benjamin D. Levin, Harvard 1990 cum laude, who practices in the real estate group in Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee office, has been elected to partnership in the firm. Levin practices in all areas of real estate law, including financing, development, sales and acquisitions, and leasing. He also focuses on municipal real estate, including redevelopment authority, community development authority, and tax incremental finance matters.

Thomas F. McDonald, Marquette 1995, has been promoted at West Group in Eagan, Minn., to West's product quality group where he will work as attorney-consultant with Keycite-Statutes and related electronic research products. He represented Keycite at the national Legal Tech Conference in New York City in February. He also has been appointed as an adjunct faculty member at the Minnesota Business School and will teach a litigation seminar for the fall and spring semester.

Elizabeth A. McDuffie, Marquette 1990, has joined Davis & Kuelthau S.C. as a shareholder in the employee benefits section. She previously was a shareholder at Krukowski & Costello S.C. McDuffie will continue her practice in FMLA, executive compensation, and other employee benefit-related issues.

Michael D. Morneault, U.W. 1995 cum laude, has joined the management team of McKessonHBOC Automated Healthcare in Pittsburgh, Penn. He formerly was associated with the business and finance section in the Pittsburgh office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions and technology transactions.

Michael J. Morse, Marquette 1981, has been appointed the village attorney for the Village of Menomonee Falls by the Village Board of Trustees. He previously was a shareholder in the firm of von Briesen, Purtell & Roper S.C.

Lincoln K. Murphy, U.W. 1979, has achieved Board Certification as a civil trial attorney through the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He practices with Murphy, Paulson, Murphy and Schroeder S.C. in Racine.

Patrick F. Norris, Marquette 1986, has joined the Horicon State Bank in its Ripon office as a vice president and commerical lender. He also has become a member of the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation Inc. board of directors.

Judith O. O'Connell, Marquette 1986, has become associated with the Milwaukee law firm of Peterson, Johnson & Murray S.C. She is starting the firm's family law practice, including such matters as divorce, custody, support, and adoption.

Brian K. Oppeneer, Marquette 1996, has joined the Eau Claire law firm of Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C. as an associate. He practices primarily in employment and labor law.

Debra Riedel, Marquette 1989, with offices in Milwaukee and Jefferson counties, has moved her Milwaukee office to 829 N. Marshall St. Her firm practices in family law/domestic relations.

James L. Santelle, the University of Chicago 1983, has accepted a temporary assignment as a principal deputy director of the Executive Office for United States Attorneys at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He will be working on a variety of criminal and civil litigation policy issues, including matters related to legislative action, personnel management, budgeting allocations, attorney training, program development, and judicial function. During his detail tenure, he will retain his status as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Jeffrey E. Schelble, Marquette 1981, and John T. Podbielski Jr., Marquette 1992, have opened a new law firm, Schelble & Podbielski S.C., at Suite 400, 622 N. Water St., Milwaukee. The firm concentrates its practice in commercial and retail collection statewide, debtor/creditor law, bankruptcy, and civil litigation.

Sally A. Piefer, Marquette 1994, and Alan E. Korpady, U.W. 1981, have joined The Schroeder Group S.C., Attorneys at Law, a Waukesha-based business law firm. Piefer practices in civil litigation, employee benefits, labor, and employment law. Korpady practices in business law, securities, environmental law, trademarks, copyrights, technology transfers and licensing, and franchise and other distribution systems. He also counsels dealership law, estate and business succession planning, corporate law, and real estate.

Bruce A. Schultz, Indiana-Indianapolis 1976, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a shareholder in the Madison firm of Coyne, Niess, Schultz, Becker & Bauer S.C.

Theresa Fremont Seem, Marquette 1993, has joined the corporate counsel department at Superior Services Inc., a Milwaukee-based solid waste services company. She previously was with the law firm of Darnieder, West, Davis & Geraghty.

Stephen M. Seymour, U.W. 1990, has opened the law offices of Stephen M. Seymour, Attorney at Law, 802 Michigan Ave., Sheboygan. He formerly was associated with Halvorsen, Buesing, & Seymour S.C. in Sheboygan. He will continue as a general practitioner, with a concentration in civil litigation, family, criminal, personal injury, and real estate law.

John C. Talis, U.W. 1991 magna cum laude, has joined the Madison office of Shneidman, Myers as an associate. He formerly was a labor and employment litigation attorney with Lawton & Cates S.C. Mark Sweet, Minnesota 1994 cum laude, has joined the firm's Milwaukee office as an associate. He previously represented individuals, employees, and labor organizations with the New Orleans, La., firm of Robein, Urann & Lurye.

Michael B. Spencer, U.W. 1998, has joined the downtown Los Angeles, Calif., law firm of Konowiecki & Rank as an associate practicing health-care litigation.

Elyse Mollner Stackhouse, U.W. 1990, has joined Rice Management Inc. as corporate counsel. Rice owns 10 nursing home and health-care facilities throughout Wisconsin and Michigan. Stackhouse will be responsible for all aspects of the company's legal and human resource issues.

L. Denise Steele, U.W. 1992, has been promoted to vice president of The Associates, Dallas, Texas. She continues as assistant general counsel for the company.

Vincent P. Tomkiewicz, U.W. 1986, has joined Bollinger, Ruberry & Garvey in Chicago, Ill. He will practice in insurance coverage and litigation.

Michael Winkelman, Loyola 1982, has joined Wilhelm Law Service, Appleton, as a patent attorney and associate of the firm. Winkelman previously spent 15 years in practice at the Dow Chemical Company and has held positions at CF Braun & Co. and Union Carbide. He received the U.S. Presidential "Green Chemistry Challenge Award" in 1996.

Thomas M. Boykoff, Michigan 1967, has been appointed by Gov. Tommy G. Thompson to the Wisconsin Tax Appeals Commission for a term ending March 2001. Don M. Millis, U.W. 1990, was reappointed to the commission for a full six-year term. Both appointments were confirmed by the Wisconsin Senate.
