The firm concentrates in products liability, personal injury, worker's compensation, and insurance defense.

    Barbara L. Burbach, U.W. 1975, and Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990 with distinction, have opened a new law firm, Burbach & Stansbury S.C., at Two Plaza East, Suite 1275, 330 E. Kilbourn Ave., Milwaukee. The firm will concentrate its practice in family law. Both attorneys were formerly with Chernov, Stern & Burbach S.C.

    Joy M. Burkholder, U.W. 1998, has joined Davis & Kuelthau S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate in the firm's labor and employment and school law sections. She formerly was an associate at Krukowski & Costello S.C.

    David J. Carlson, Marquette 1979, has joined Schober & Radtke S.C., with offices in New Berlin, Oconomowoc, Dousman, and Milwaukee. Carlson has practiced in Waukesha county for 20 years as a general practitioner, which he will continue, with an emphasis on estate planning.

    Bruce A. Chesshire, Iowa 1980 cum laude, has joined Argus Technical Services Inc., Milwaukee, as senior vice president and general counsel. He previously was a partner at Shneidman Myers in Milwaukee and remains of counsel with the firm.

    Kathryn K. Shebiel, U.W. 1978, and Mark E. Robinson, U.W. 1991, have become shareholders in the Janesville firm of Consigny, Andrews, Hemming & Grant S.C. Shebiel practices in estate planning, probate, and family law. Robinson practices in business/corporate, real estate, collections, and estate planning.

    Daniel P. Duffy, Notre Dame 1993, has joined the Chicago law firm of McBride Baker & Coles. Duffy was previously with Cassiday Schade & Gloor. He concentrates his practice in civil litigation and computer law.

    Thomas E. Gausden, Marquette 1977, has been named vice president and general counsel of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club.

    Steven J. Ziesmann, Chicago-Kent 1997, joins Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Milwaukee, on the environmental practice team, and Rebecca L. Himmelspach, U.W. 1997, joins the firm on the tax practice team. Ziesmann formerly was with Abbott Laboratories, and Himmelspach was with Arthur Anderson LLP in Milwaukee. Thomas R. Homberg, Marquette 1996 cum laude, has joined the firm as an associate on the financial institutions practice team. He formerly was an attorney at Firstar Corporation.

    Dawn Marie Harris, Marquette 1993, has joined Parke O'Flaherty Ltd., La Crosse, practicing in employment law and civil litigation. She has been practicing in La Crosse since 1993.

    Barbara S. Hughes, U.W. 1986, has become a partner at Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger, Reiley & Zimmer of Madison, in the general practice of law. Hughes continues to practice in elder law, marital property, estate planning, probate, and trust administration. The firm has changed its name to Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger, Reiley, Zimmer & Hughes.

    Thomas C. Iskalis, University of Toledo 1982, recently became a vice president at the Northern Trust Company, Chicago. He is a relationship manager in division A of the personal fiduciary client services group. He most recently was a vice president at Old Kent Bank in Elmhurst.

    George W. Jonas, U.W. 1998 cum laude, has joined the Minneapolis law firm of Kinney & Lange as an associate practicing in patent, copyright, and trademark law.

    Robert R. Kanuit, William Mitchell 1993 cum laude, has become a shareholder in Maki, Durst, Ledin, Bick, Lehr & Kanuit S.C., Superior. Kanuit practices in business law, banking, real estate, probate, estate planning, appeals, and personal injury law.

    Tracey L. Klein, Marquette 1984 cum laude, has joined Reinhart, Boerner, Van Duren, Norris & Rieselbach S.C., Milwaukee, as a shareholder in the health-care department. Klein was previously a partner in the health law department of the Milwaukee office of Foley & Lardner.

    Robert W. Kohn, U.W. 1955, has incorporated his Milwaukee practice under the name of Kohn Law Firm S.C. Kohn also recently addressed the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys at its meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, on "Collection Manager Issues." Mark R. Raddatz, Marquette 1997, has joined the firm.

    Milwaukee corporate attorney Harold A. Laufer, U.W. 1974, has authored Fundamentals of Buying and Selling a Business: A Roadmap for the Business Owner. A shareholder at Davis & Kuelthau S.C., Laufer has 25 years of experience in corporate law. He has counseled privately held and publicly traded companies, commercial lenders, and business executives on a wide variety of transactional matters. The guide is available from the firm.

    Paul A. Loraas, North Dakota 1994 cum laude, has joined Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick P.A., Duluth, Minn., as an associate. He will concentrate in real estate, commercial litigation, and lender support.

    Steven J. Cottingham, George Washington University 1987 with high honors, and Jeffrey M. Kipfmueller, Marquette 1993, have been promoted within Marquette University's office of the General Counsel. Cottingham was promoted to assistant vice president and counsel while Kipfmueller was promoted to associate general counsel. The office of the General Counsel is the principal representative for legal matters involving Marquette University.

    Teresa J. Welch, Ph.D., U.W. 1987 cum laude, and Grady J. Frenchick, U.W. 1997, join the Madison office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as partners; and Karen B. King, U.W. 1995, joins the firm as an associate. Welch formerly was a partner and head of the intellectual property practice of a Madison-based law firm, and served as a tenured professor and chair of the Edgewood College physical science department. Frenchick previously was a partner with another Madison-based law firm and held positions as senior patent counsel and staff patent attorney. King formerly was an intellectual property associate with another Madison-based law firm.

    Lorene Duero Mozinski, U.W. 1979, has been appointed family court commissioner for Manitowoc County. As a full-time judicial court commissioner, she also handles all small claims trials for the county, and conducts bail and TPC hearings. She also officiates at weddings.

    Theodore T. Balistreri, Marquette 1992, and Joseph Berger, John Marshall 1983, have become shareholders with the firm of Otjen, Van Ert, Stangle, Lieb & Weir S.C. in the Milwaukee office.

    Mark D. Pilon, Minnesota 1993 cum laude, has been elected as a shareholder at Hanft, Fride, O'Brien, Harries, Swelbar & Burns Law Firm of Duluth, Minn. He practices business and commercial law.

    James P. Pitz, U.W. 1993, has been named a partner in the Appleton law firm of Sigman, Janssen, Stack, Wenning & Wilson. Pitz concentrates in personal injury law.

    Michael B. Plaisted, U.W. 1986, has joined the Law Office of Rollie Hanson S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate. His practice includes criminal law, employment/discrimination law, and consumer law, concentrating on the lemon law. He most recently worked as a staff representative for the Wisconsin Federation of Teachers.

    The law firm of Quarles & Brady has merged with the Chicago firm of Wilson & McIlvaine. The merger allows the new organization to build on their rich histories to better serve clients, implement additional growth, and strengthen Quarles & Brady. The merged firm will retain the Quarles & Brady name. Wayne E. Babler Jr., U.W. 1967, and Peter C. Karegeannes, Michigan 1972, of Quarles & Brady LLP have authored Chapter 10, titled Joinder, Consolidation, and Severance, in West Publishing's new six-volume business litigation manual: Business and Commercial Litigation in Federal Courts. The authors were assisted by Brian W. Blanchard, Sarah E. Coyne, James M. Brennan, and Cory L. Nettles, who also are with Quarles & Brady. Babler is a partner in the firm's Milwaukee office, practicing in litigation and antitrust and trade regulation matters. Karegeannes, also a partner in the firm's Milwaukee office, has been litigating and trying cases for more than 26 years.

    Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris & Rieselbach S.C., Milwaukee, has elected three attorneys as shareholders of the firm: Vincent J. Beres, Marquette 1991 cum laude, a member of the firm's business organizations and tax departments; Peter W. Becker, Marquette 1991 cum laude, a member of the intellectual property department; and Dean E. Mabie, U.W. 1991 cum laude, a member of the firm's litigation department.

    Randall Paulson, U.W. 1987, is the new Private Bar Liaison in eastern Wisconsin for the Assigned Counsel Division of the State Public Defender. For the last five of his 11 years with the SPD, Paulson has worked in the Milwaukee appellate office. Christine Clair, U.W. 1989, is the Private Bar Liaison for western Wisconsin. She has been an assistant state public defender in the La Crosse office for the last 10 years. They will serve as SPD resources for the attorneys in the SPD private bar program.

    Lora Sykora, Louisiana State University 1980, has been named vice president at Marshall & Ilsley Trust Company. Sykora will manage various types of qualified retirement plans. A licensed investment professional, she has received the American Jurisprudence Award for corporations and trusts.

    Gov. Thompson has appointed Thomas M. Boykoff, Michigan 1967, and reappointed Don M. Millis, U.W. 1990, to the three-member Tax Appeals Commission. Boykoff has worked for the last 14 years as general counsel in the Office of the Commission of Savings and Loan. Millis has been an associate attorney with DeWitt Ross & Stevens, a Madison law firm, for the last eight years. Prior to that, he was the chief aide to Sen. James E. Harsdorf and finance aide to former Sen. J. Mac Davis. The Tax Appeals Commission decides disputes between taxpayers and the Department of Revenue. The senate must confirm their appointments.

    Bryce H. Tolefree, U.W. 1990, has joined the Milwaukee office of Gonzalez, Saggio, Birdsall & Harlan as a shareholder and member of the firm's litigation group. He previously was associated with Otjen, Van Ert, Stangle, Lieb & Weir, Milwaukee.

    Jay A. Urban, Marquette 1992, an attorney with Techmeier & Van Grunsven S.C., has been appointed to the board of directors of the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers. The association educates the public about the political and legal process while its members represent consumers in obtaining just and fair compensation when they are injured through the carelessness or fault of others.

    Mark S. Diestelmeier, Iowa 1991, Kenneth A. Hoogstra, Michigan 1990, and Lynn A. Sondreal, Marquette 1991, have been promoted as shareholders at von Briesen, Purtell & Roper S.C., Milwaukee. Diestelmeier works in the litigation practice area with an emphasis on commercial, corporate, and professional liability matters. Hoogstra practices in the compensation and benefits section. He also maintains an extensive employment and family-based immigration practice, with emphasis on immigration options for health care professionals and computer consultants. Sondreal works primarily in the real estate and financial institutions practice areas, with an emphasis on real estate transactions, regulatory compliance, and land use issues.

    Daphne Webb, U.W. 1973, a partner with the Madison law firm of Stafford, Rosenbaum, Rieser & Hansen, has been accepted into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The academy is an association of the nation's top matrimonial attorneys from 49 states and the District of Columbia.

    David A. Wolfe, Marquette 1992 cum laude, has become a shareholder with the Racine firm of Hostak, Henzl & Bichler S.C.
