    William K. Baxter, Syracuse 1996, has joined Godfrey & Kahn S.C. on the intellectual property team in the firm's Milwaukee office. Prior to joining Godfrey & Kahn, Baxter was with Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall.

    Aynsley B. Bourne, Tulane 1999, and Paul F. Grave, U.W. 1999, have joined Borgelt, Powell, Peterson & Frauen S.C. as associates practicing in insurance defense litigation. Bourne is in the Milwaukee office and Graves is in the Madison office.

    Carolyn Lazar Butler, U.W. 1979, has been named director of Assessment 2000, the U.W. Law School's curriculum evaluation project. Assessment 2000, which is part of the law school's strategic planning efforts, will collect information about the law school's success in preparing its students for legal careers. Butler previously was the director of State Bar CLE Books and practiced law with Stafford Rosenbaum, Madison.

    CrawfordJeff Crawford , Michigan 1988, has been named attorney general for the Forest County Potawatomi Community of Wisconsin. He most recently was an attorney at General Mills Corporation.

    Scott J. Campbell, Michigan 1990, has joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin as an assistant U.S. attorney in the economic and general crimes unit. He formerly was legal counsel to the president and assistant attorney general of the Republic of Palau, a newly independent country located in Micronesia.

    Matthew J. Flanary, U.W. 1992, and Bradley D. Page, U.W. 1989, have been elected shareholders at Davis & Kuelthau S.C., Milwaukee. Flanary is a member of the firm's employee benefits and labor and employment sections where he counsels clients on a variety of employee benefit matters. Flanary recently coauthored The COBRA Guide: COBRA Compliance for Wisconsin Employers (1999). He is a frequent author and speaker on employee benefits matters. Page is a member of the business and corporate law section where he represents commercial real estate developers, commercial lenders, design professionals, contractors, and other businesses in real estate, construction law, and lending matters.

    Robert W. Dean, Catholic U. 1997, has joined Slavin & Slavin, Chicago, Ill., as an associate practicing worker's compensation defense and civil defense.

    Wisconsin Attorney General James E. Doyle, Harvard 1972, announces the recent hiring of nine new assistant attorneys general: Jane Cronan, U.W. 1992, has been an attorney for the U.S. Air Force for three years, serving as Judge Advocate General at Andrews Air Force Base and at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia. Cronan is assigned to the civil litigation unit. Corey Finkelmeyer, U.W. 1999, previously served as a law clerk at the Department of Justice and at a private firm in Milwaukee. Finkelmeyer is assigned to the civil litigation unit. Jeffrey Kassel, U.W. 1985, is assigned to the criminal appeals unit. Kassel previously was in private practice. Michael D. Oeser, U.W. 1998, served as a law clerk and staff attorney with the Ho-Chunk Nation Court System in Black River Falls. He is assigned to the civil litigation unit. Jaime Preciado, U.W. 1999, has worked for the U.S. Attorney's Office in both California and Wisconsin (Western District) and most recently was a judicial intern for Judge Roggensack in the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. He is assigned to the civil litigation unit. John (Jack) Sweeney, Notre Dame 1973, has rejoined the Department of Justice as an assistant attorney general (AAG) assigned to the employment unit, having previously served as AAG from 1979-1987. He previously was in private practice. Joely B. Urdan, U.W. 1999, is assigned to the civil litigation unit. Christopher Wren, Harvard 1979, previously served with the attorney general's office in the criminal appeals unit and worked as Barron County deputy corporation counsel. He is assigned to the criminal appeals unit. Karla A. Zahorik, U.W. 1998, served as judicial clerk for Judge Roggensack of the Court of Appeals-District IV and is assigned to the civil litigation unit.

    Norman D. Farnam, Illinois 1999 magna cum laude, has joined Stroud, Willink & Howard LLC, Madison, as an associate.

    KronquistKathryn A. Kronquist , DePaul 1995, has joined O'Neil Cannon & Hollman S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate practicing in real estate and corporate and business transactions.

    Mark Frankel, U.W. 1973, has joined Madison Gas and Electric Company as vice president and general counsel. He leaves a position as Dane County circuit court judge.

    Mary J. Koshollek, Marquette 1993 and M.S. Library Science, U.W.-Milwaukee, has joined Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Milwaukee, as the director of library services. She previously was with von Briesen, Purtell & Roper.

    Carol E. Kraima, Marquette 1999, has joined Flanagan, Sendik & Fahl LLC, Wauwatosa, as an associate.

    Paul D. Lawent, Marquette 1967, has joined the Law Offices of Alan D. Eisenberg as an associate attorney concentrating in employment and labor law and civil litigation. Lawent was formerly a Racine County assistant district attorney, Manitowoc city attorney, Marathon County corporation counsel, and general counsel of the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin Inc. He is licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin.

    Leonard Martin, U.W. 1992, has joined the Milwaukee office of Gonzalez, Saggio, Birdsall & Harlan LLP as an associate in the firm's employment law practice. He previously served the Wisconsin Department of Justice as assistant attorney general.

    LinEvan Y. Lin , U.W. 1998 cum laude, has joined Metszler and Hager S.C., Green Bay, practicing in estate planning, corporate, and business law. Lin previously was with Deloitte & Touche LLP, Milwaukee.

    Pamela R. McGillivray, U.W. 1999 cum laude, has joined Garvey & Stoddard S.C., Madison, as an associate practicing in labor, employment, and environmental law.

    Robert A. Moakley, Marquette 1999, has become an associate with Lanahan & Reilley, Santa Rosa, Calif., practicing in corporate and business law, including intellectual property and litigation.

    Daniel J. Lipman, George Washington 1973, Ronald M. Trachtenberg, U.W. 1976, Vernon J. Jesse, U.W. 1989, and Gregory P. Seibold, U.W. 1991, have become shareholders in the firm of Murphy & Desmond S.C. Lipman practices primarily in real estate, corporate business transactions, LLC and partnership formations, and estate planning/probate. Trachtenberg practices primarily in real estate development, municipal law, and business transactions and formations.     Laura Neuman, U.W. 1993, has taken a position with the Carter Center, Atlanta, Ga., working in the Latin American and Caribbean Program. The nonprofit center, founded by former President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, monitors elections, safeguards human rights, prevents and resolves conflicts, enhances democracy, and improves health in nations worldwide. Neuman previously was a staff attorney at Legal Action of Wisconsin Inc. She was named 1996 Outstanding Advocate of the Year by the Older Adult Service Providers' Consortium.

    Paul G. Belke, U.W. 1996, and Jason J. Frankowiak, Washington U., St. Louis, 1999, have joined the Milwaukee office of Otjen, Van Ert, Lieb & Weir S.C. as associates practicing in insurance defense. Terri L. Weber, Marquette 1999, has joined the firm's Madison office as an associate practicing in insurance defense and other civil defense matters.

    MandelJane Barclay Mandel , U.W. 1997 with honors, has joined Morse & Shiller Ltd. as an associate practicing in estate planning and tax exempt organizations, with emphasis on estate planning for young families, women, and preretirement planning. The firm has offices in Mequon and Brookfield.

    Tracy D. Reckmeyer, U.W. 1988, has joined HK Systems Inc., New Berlin, as associate counsel. She previously practiced with the law firms of Keck, Mahin & Cate and Flaherty & Jacobson P.C., Chicago, Ill.

    Lucie A. Usher, Hamline 1997, has joined Garvey, Anderson, Johnson, Geraci & Mirr S.C., Eau Claire, as an associate concentrating in estate planning, tax law, and business law.

    Peter J. Walsh, De Paul 1998, LL.M.-Tax, Univ. Florida 1999, has joined Walsh & Keating S.C., Wauwatosa, as an associate. Walsh also is admitted in Illinois and Florida. He will concentrate in tax law, commercial and real estate transactions, wealth preservation, and devolution planning and probate.

    Steven E. Zablocki, Detroit 1999, has joined Bass & Moglowsky S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate practicing in mortgage foreclosure and real estate law.

    New officers of the Leander J. Foley Jr. Matrimonial Chapter of the American Inns of Court include: president - C. Michael Hausman; president-elect - Charles I. Phillips; counselor/administrator - Barbara L. Burbach; and treasurer - John P. Savage.

    Elizabeth Blackwood, Marquette 1979, has been appointed assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin after working as a special assistant in the office. Blackwood served as a Racine County assistant district attorney for 19 years.

    The Association for Women Lawyers recently elected these officers: president - Joan B. Farrell, Milwaukee; president-elect - Lesli K. McLinden, Milwaukee; secretary - Sandra M. Sobocinski, Wauwatosa; and treasurer - Mary L. Richards, Milwaukee.

    The Civil Trial Counsel of Wisconsin recently elected these officers: president - Christine K. Nelson, Brookfield; president-elect - William R. Wick, Manitowoc; and secretary/treasurer - Patrick W. Brennan, Milwaukee.

    The Jefferson County Bar Association recently elected the following officers: president - John R. Fiske, Madison; president-elect - Vincent J. Guerrero, Lake Mills; and secretary/treasurer - Colleen J. Locke, Jefferson.

    The Walworth County Bar Association recently elected these officers: president - David M. Reddy; president-elect - Victoria A. Oleniczak; and secretary/treasurer - Theodore N. Johnson.

    The Waupaca County Bar Association recently elected the following officers: president - James H. Fassbender, New London; president-elect - David L. Forsythe, Iola; and secretary/treasurer - P. Jay Sturm, Manawa.
