As an intern, he researched and wrote opinions for Justice Department officials.
Crooks says the most memorable people he met during this time were Attorney General Kennedy; two individuals who later became U.S. Attorneys General, Nicholas Katzenbach and Ramsey Clark; and U.S. Supreme Court Justice William Douglas. As an intern, Crooks also recalls hearing President John F. Kennedy speak at a White House seminar program. He met, and had lunch with, President Kennedy in 1960 at St. Norbert College.
