    Board Actions

    The following State Bar Board of Governors actions were taken at the June 24 meeting in Lake Geneva.

    PASSED the Finance Committee's proposed balanced $8.8 million general fund budget. Section budgets passed unanimously.

    ESTABLISHED a dues stabilization fund and approved funding it with budget cuts from the FY99 budget and surplus from FY98, if any.

    ACCEPTED a procedure for Finance Committee use in putting together the Fiscal Year 2000 budget.

    APPROVED the FY98 section carryovers and the revised section budget carryover policy.

    INCREASED the Bench/Bar Committee budget to $5,000.

    ACCEPTED the report of the board's Strategic Planning Committee, authorized its implementation, and unanimously voted to petition the supreme court to amend SCR 10.06 relative to the committee's report.

    AGREED to join BAPR in a petition to the supreme court relative to financial institutions and expanded opportunities for lawyers to invest their client security funds.

    ELECTED James Friedman to the board to fill the vacancy in the Milwaukee delegation created when Nathan Fishbach became board chair.

    ELECTED governors James Brennan, James Friedman, William Mulligan, and Paul Reilly to the FY99 Executive Committee.

    CHANGED the name of the Office Management Section to the Law Practice Section.

    APPROVED the Government Lawyers Division bylaw amendments.

    ACCEPTED the Clients' Security Fund rule change.

    INSTRUCTED ABA delegates to best serve the ABA and the State Bar of Wisconsin regarding a proposed change in ABA dues categories that would require ABA members over age 70 to pay dues.

    APPOINTED Kathleen Grant, Michelle Behnke, William Jennaro, and Patrick Norris as members of the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation (WisTAF) board.

    ELECTED John Macy and Pam Barker as American Bar Association delegates.

    ISSUED a proclamation honoring Milwaukee County Circuit Court Chief Judge Patrick Sheedy on his many years of service and dedication to the legal profession. Sheedy, who retired Aug. 1, is a past president of the State Bar and served as a state delegate to the ABA for many years.

    THANKED President Sorenson and Chairperson Tess-Mattner for their year of accomplishments, dedication, and good humor.
