Betsy Abramson, U.W. 1981, has received the 11th Annual Paul Lichterman Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Advancement of Legal Services for Older Persons. The national award is presented by the four national support centers in law and aging to a leader in legal services delivery development at the state or local level. Abramson also was selected by the Kellogg Foundation to receive a Kellogg National Leadership Program three-year fellowship.

Bruce F. Anders, Illinois 1976, has joined Bell, Metzner, Gierhart & Moore S.C., Madison, as an associate.

David G. Been, Marquette 1997, has joined Kachinsky and Petit Law Offices, Neenah, as an associate practicing criminal, traffic and family law.

Michael M. Berzowski, Marquette 1969, a partner at Weiss, Berzowski, Brady & Donahue, Milwaukee, recently was elected to a three-year term to the board of directors of the Wisconsin Club. He also is a certified public accountant and a former career officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.

The Board of Bar Examiners has elected the following officers for 1998: Celia M. Jackson, chair; and Theodore J. Poulos, vice chair.

Steven T. Botzau, Marquette 1988, of Habush, Habush, Davis & Rottier, has been certified in civil trial law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

James J. Casey Jr., Dayton 1988, has become an advisor to The Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at De Paul University. An article addressing the Wisconsin regional planning statute and regional attempts at cooperation in southeastern Wisconsin, entitled "Bridging the Great Divide: SEWRPC, Politics and Regional Cooperation," is scheduled for publication by the Marquette Law Review in April 1998 and was featured in The Chaddick Institute newsletter in January.

Steven T. Caya, Hamline 1989 cum laude, has become a partner in Fellows, Piper & Schmidt, Milwaukee. Caya also is licensed to practice law in Minnesota.

Daniel R. Clausz, U.W. 1993 with honors, has become a member of Robinson, Peterson, Berk & Cross with offices in Appleton and Green Bay, concentrating in criminal law. He adds depth to the firm's traffic and criminal law services to clients throughout northeastern Wisconsin, both in trial and appellate practice.

Three attorneys have joined Davis & Kuelthau S.C., Milwaukee. Ronald M. Carlson, San Diego 1977, joins the commercial finance, and bankruptcy, insolvency and creditors' rights sections as a shareholder, focusing on banking, corporate and bankruptcy matters. Previously, Carlson was a partner at Schoendorf, Sorgi & Carlson S.C. Felipe N. Gomez has joined the environmental law section as an associate, focusing on environmental compliance and litigation. Previously, he served as assistant regional counsel with the Chicago office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Daniel J. Borowski, U.W. 1990, joins the firm as an associate in the litigation section, providing representation on commercial and civil litigation matters. He previously was counsel at CNA Insurance Companies in Brookfield.

William Drengler, Marquette 1976, has returned to private practice and formed Drengler Law Firm at 609 Scott St., Wausau. The firm emphasizes personal injury, family, labor, employment, criminal defense, municipal, personal bankruptcy and veterans' appeals practice areas. Drengler is a former district attorney and county corporation counsel, now inactive Army National Guard JAG officer, charter member of the State Bar Professionalism Committee and a past president of the Government Lawyers Division.

Sandra Lee Esrael, U.W. 1976, recently was elected to the National Council of the National Association of Regulatory Administrators, an association that promotes public education and advocates for the safeguarding of children, youth and adults through enforcing standards and regulatory laws. Esrael is an attorney with the Office of Legal Counsel, Department of Health and Family Services, Madison, practicing in children and youth services' regulation.

Scott S. Fensin, U.W. 1996, has joined Cook & Franke S.C., practicing litigation. He previously was a judicial law clerk for Judges Michael Skwierawski and John DiMotto.

Susan B. Kaplan, U.W. 1991, previously a staff attorney with the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of Labor in Washington, D.C., has become assistant director of the Harvard Electricity Policy Group at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. She also is a freelance writer whose most recent piece appeared in the Washington Post.

Robert W. Kohn, U.W. 1959, of the Kohn Law Firm, Milwaukee, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA). NARCA serves membership with educational seminars, lobbying for creditors' rights legislation, and by offering debt collection and litigation services. The Kohn Law Firm concentrates in retail and commercial debt collection throughout Wisconsin.

Carrie L. Kundinger, Northern Illinois 1997, has joined Stellpflug, Janssen, Nell & Hammer S.C., De Pere, as an associate practicing health, corporate and tax law.

La Fleur Law Office S.C. has relocated to 525 E. Wells St., Suite 250, Milwaukee. The firm concentrates in civil litigation with an emphasis on insurance defense. Linda M. Gogan, Marquette 1997, has joined the firm as an associate. She previously clerked for the Hon. Charles B. Schudson of the Wisconsin District I Court of Appeals.

Richard Lavers, Michigan 1972, has become general counsel of Coachmen Industries Inc., headquartered in Elkhart, Ind. He remains affiliated with Whyte, Hirschboeck, Dudek S.C. as counsel on international business matters. He formerly was vice president, secretary and general counsel of RMT Inc., Madison.

Joan Humphrey Lefkow has been appointed to a 14-year term as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge to the Northern District of Illinois, headquartered in Chicago. She has served as a U.S. magistrate judge for the Northern District of Illinois since 1982.

Nancy K. Lynch, U.W. 1996, has become associate university legal counsel with the U.W.-Madison Office of Administrative Legal Services. She will focus on employment law, student affairs and public records, and open meetings issues.

Michael J. Masnica, Marquette 1988, has joined the Kenosha firm of Rizzo & Vignali S.C., practicing in criminal defense and the general practice of law.

Truman Q. McNulty, Marquette 1948, of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., Milwaukee, has been appointed as a commissioner to the ABA Commission on Legal Problems of the Elderly in Washington, D.C. He also has been honored by the Armed Forces Law Committee, an ABA Standing Committee representing the five military services, for his "Commitment to the Advancement of Military Law." He also was formally recognized for outstanding service as representative to the Committee from the ABA Board of Governors during 1994-97.

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP recently jumped 13 places in the National Law Journal's (NLJ) "Annual Survey of the Nation's 250 Largest Law Firms," moving to the 146th largest firm nationally and the third largest in Milwaukee. Jeffrey L. Olin, Marquette 1987, De Paul LL.M.-taxation, an international tax practitioner with expertise in computerized software applications for global tax planning and compliance, has joined Arthur Andersen's international tax practice team in the firm's Chicago office.

Therese M. Pautz, Hamline 1989, has left King & Hatch P.A., where she was one of the founding shareholders, and has formed a new company, NeuVest, at 1769 N. Lexington Ave., Suite 330, Saint Paul, Minn. The company conducts neutral investigations of employment claims.

Carl J. Pellegrini, U.W. 1992, has joined the Washington, D.C. firm of Sughrue, Mion, Zinn, Macpeak & Seas PLLC, practicing in patent prosecution and intellectual property litigation.

Rob Petershack, U.W. 1994 cum laude, formerly of LaFollette & Sinykin, Madison, has joined Epic Systems Corp., Madison, as corporate counsel. Epic Systems Corp. is a leading developer of software for the health-care industry.

Daphne M. Query, U.W. 1997, has joined the Milwaukee firm of Hochstatter, McCarthy & Rivas S.C., as an associate practicing immigration law.

Mark D. Schubert, U.W. 1991 cum laude, has joined Silton, Seifert, Carlson & Gamble S.C., Appleton, as an associate practicing in civil litigation, with primary emphasis on divorce and family law. He formerly was with Van Hoof, Van Hoof & Cornett, Little Chute.

Angela L. Sheldon, Marquette 1997, has become an associate with Terwilliger, Wakeen, Piehler & Conway S.C., Wausau, as a member of the firm's litigation section.

Jeff Spitzer-Resnick, Boston College 1985, has been promoted from the position of staff attorney to managing attorney for developmental disabilities at the Wisconsin Coalition for Advocacy, a statewide disability rights organization in Madison. He formerly was chief counsel at the Board on Aging and Long Term Care and staff attorney at the Center for Public Representation.

Rick D. Steinberg, Cooley 1997, has become an associate in Steinberg Law Offices S.C., Brookfield, where he practices general law with his father, Richard J. Steinberg. Richard J. Steinberg has been municipal judge for Brookfield for 23 years and serves as a reserve judge for Milwaukee Municipal Court.

Steven H. Steinglass, Columbia 1967, has been named the 12th Dean of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University. The College of Law, which has entered its Centennial Year, is the largest law school in Ohio. Dean Steinglass previously practiced law in Wisconsin with Legal Action of Wisconsin Inc. and its predecessor legal services organizations.

The Blood Center of Southeast Wisconsin placed Reserve Judge Michael T. Sullivan on its Donor Honor Roll. His 195 pints placed him ninth in the top 50 of over 65,000 donors.

Howard A. Sweet, Harvard 1970, has joined Hurley, Burish & Milliken, Madison, where he continues his 27-year law practice primarily in estate planning, business, tax and tax exempt organization law.

Paul H. Ten Pas, Marquette 1982, has been named vice president-labor relations and senior attorney at Kohler Co. He will be responsible for collective bargaining and union contract administration at all locations of the corporation worldwide. He also chairs the bargaining committee at the Kohler, Wis., plant and manages employment law matters at all company locations.

Jessica J. Tlusty, William Mitchell 1997, has joined the firm of Tlusty, Hittner, Kennedy & Freeburg S.C., Schofield, as an associate practicing primarily in family law and personal injury.

Tammy S. Tremain, U.W. 1994, has been appointed municipal judge for the Village of Marshall.

Mark W. Vyvyan, U.W. 1997 cum laude, has joined Fredrikson & Byron, Minneapolis, Minn., in its real estate and real estate dispute resolution departments. Karrie Gemignani Weaver, U.W. 1997, joined the firm's intellectual property group, working in all areas of U.S. and international intellectual property.

David G. Walsh, U.W. 1965, was honored as a distinguished business alumnus by the U.W. School of Business. The award is the school's highest honor and is given to recognize lifetime career accomplishments and outstanding public service. A partner at Foley & Lardner, Walsh served as partner-in-charge of the firm's Madison office from 1988-1995. He concentrates in corporate and telecommunications law, emphasizing mergers and acquisitions and regulatory issues.

He is the owner and operator of several cable television systems in Wisconsin and is president of the HLM Cable Corporation Inc., Walworth County Cablevision Inc. and Dodge County Cablevision Inc. Walsh also is an owner of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers recently elected the following officers for 1997-98: president - Don C. Prachthauser, Milwaukee; president-elect - Randall E. Reinhardt, Milwaukee; vice president - Kevin Lonergan, Appleton; secretary - M. Angela Dentice, Milwaukee; and treasurer - Keith R. Clifford, Madison. Pamela R. The Wisconsin Land Title Association recently awarded its 1997 President's Award to: Louis Andrew, Marquette 1966, for his work as chair of the organization's Legislation Committee; and James Ramseyer, U.W. 1988, chair of the group's Technology Committee.

Michael L. Zaleski, U.W. 1966, a partner in the Madison law firm of Quarles & Brady, recently was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Trial Lawyers. Zaleski concentrates in litigation, including products liability, toxic tort, trade regulation, securities and intellectual property matters.

Frank J. Ziegler, U.W. 1975, was elected a vice president of Comdisco Inc., Rosemont, Ill., where he is associate general counsel.

Mark S. Zimmer, U.W. 1985, has become a partner at Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger & Reiley, Madison, concentrating in business, real estate, estate planning and trademark. The firm has changed its name to Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger, Reiley & Zimmer.
