    Brian W. Blanchard, Northwestern 1989, has joined Quarles & Brady, Madison, as an associate concentrating in litigation law. He formerly was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago.

    Linda Bennett, U.W. 1989 cum laude, has joined the legislation department of the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO, as a legislative representative.

    David R. Berman, Marquette 1993, has joined with John Anthony Ward, John Marshall 1985, and Gary N. Lento, Catholic 1992, to form Ward, Lento & Berman, Attorneys at Law, located at 2424 63rd St., Kenosha. The new firm's address was listed incorrectly in the August Personal Mentions.

    James R. Cauley, Minnesota 1980, was appointed assistant general counsel of General Signal Corp., Necedah. He continues as general counsel and secretary for the Best Power unit of General Signal. His office is located in Waukesha.

    Timothy E. Kronquist, DePaul 1995, has joined Cook & Franke S.C., Milwaukee, practicing in real estate transactions and development. Jason R. Handal, Marquette 1995, also has joined the firm, practicing in estate planning, marital property, real estate and general corporate and business law.

    Frank Thomas Crivello, Marquette 1973, law review, has established a mediation, arbitration and litigation support practice in the offices of Piano, Harris & Tishberg. He also will focus on consultation and litigation assistance to other law firms in civil and criminal cases. He previously was a Milwaukee County circuit court judge and a faculty member of the National Judicial College.

    Justice Louis J. Ceci, Wisconsin Supreme Court (retired), recently completed all statutory requirements imposed by the Florida Supreme Court for certification as a mediator in civil matters. Justice Ceci maintains his mediation office at 611 N. Broadway St., Suite 304, Milwaukee.

    Three 1997 graduates of Marquette University Law School have joined Davis & Kuelthau, Milwaukee, as associates. Stacy L. Alvarez is a member of the corporate law section; Ellen K. Basting will practice labor and employment law; and Erin S. Sutherland joins the employee benefits section.

    Paul G. Kent, U.W. 1981, a shareholder at DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., has been chosen president-elect of the Dane County Bar Association. Donald Leo Bach, U.W. 1974, also a shareholder with the firm, has been appointed chair of the State Bar Bench Bar Committee. L. Stuart Rosenberg, U.W. 1995, an associate with the firm, has been appointed to the board of directors of the State Bar Environmental Law Section.

    Laurie A. Eggert, U.W. 1976, and Michael J. Edmonds, U.W. 1985, have formed Eggert & Edmonds S.C., located at 1840 N. Farwell Ave., Suite 303, Milwaukee. Eggert's practice emphasizes the representation of police unions. Edmonds concentrates on criminal and civil litigation in state and federal courts.

    Erica M. Eisinger, U.W. 1982 magna cum laude, has been named director of lawyering skills and associate professor at Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, Mich.

    John Michael Maier, U.W. 1984, and Lisa R. Richardson, Minnesota 1991, of Milwaukee's EMJAY Corp., co-authored The Participant Directed Investment Answer Book, published by Panel Publishers.

    James P. Enright, U.W. 1988, has become an associate at Law, Weathers & Richardson P.C., Grand Rapids, Mich., practicing environmental law.

    The Equal Justice Coalition Inc. has appointed the following officers: president - John S. Skilton, Foley & Lardner, Madison; vice-president - Herbert C. Liebmann III, Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay; secretary - Nathan A. Fishbach, Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., Milwaukee; and treasurer - Michelle A. Behnke, CUNA Mutual Group, Madison. The coalition's executive council is co-chaired by former Chief Justice Nathan S. Heffernan, Madison, and Maureen A. McGinnity, Foley & Lardner, Milwaukee. The coalition's mission is to preserve and promote equal justice for all residents of Wisconsin. It is engaged in a statewide fund-raising campaign to raise $5 million over the next three years. Campaign revenue will fund direct civil legal representation for low-income Wisconsin residents.

    Lee J. Fehr, North Dakota 1989, has opened Lee J. Fehr Law Office in Onalaska. The firm handles insurance defense, subrogation and personal injury matters and various other civil litigation cases.

    Two May 1997 U.W. graduates have joined Foley & Lardner's Madison office as associates. David A. Meisinger joins the litigation department and Michelle M. Umberger joins the business law department.

    Jim Fullin, Ohio State 1972, was awarded a certificate from the Marquette University Graduate Program in Dispute Resolution. Fullin has a solo practice in law and mediation in Madison and is one of two lawyers to have completed this 15-credit program.

    Julius W. Gernes, William Mitchell 1988, has become a shareholder and partner with Spence, Ricke & Thurmer P.A., St. Paul, Minn. He practices in insurance defense and railroad litigation in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

    Carl W. Gilmore, U.W. 1994, was named to the editorial board of the ABA's Family Law Section Family Advocate magazine. Gilmore's book chapter, "Deconstructing Leases: A method and critique of lease valuation in divorce proceedings," appeared in the 1997 Wiley Family Law Update, published in June. Gilmore is completing a book titled, Gitlin on Parentage, which will outline the law of parentage in Illinois. He is an associate with Gitlin & Gitlin, a law firm focusing on matrimonial law in Woodstock, Ill.

    Martin J. Greenberg, Marquette 1971, presented a paper, "What the Future Holds for the European Transfer System: The American Experience," at the Fifth I.A.S.L. Congress in Nafplio, Greece, in July. He also participated in a conference in Dallas, Texas, in August as sponsored by the International Association of Assembly Managers on Arena Sports Lease Update. He will teach in October at Anglia Law School, Chelmsford, England, as part of his visiting professorship at the law school. In December he will participate in a government-sponsored conference on sports endorsements, licensing and sponsorship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    Ben Griffiths, U.W. 1992, has become an associate university legal counsel with the U.W.-Madison Office of Administrative Legal Services. His responsibilities will focus on trademark, purchasing, contract review, tax, and public records and open meetings issues.

    K. Scott Wagner, Marquette 1989 cum laude, has become a shareholder of Hale & Lein S.C., Milwaukee. He practices in commercial, securities and antitrust litigation. David M. Skoglind, Baylor 1982, also has become a shareholder in the firm. Skoglind, formerly a shareholder with Warshavsky, Rotter, Tarnoff, Reinhardt & Block, Milwaukee, practices in product liability, medical malpractice and personal injury litigation. Paul D. Bauer, Marquette 1997 magna cum laude, has joined the firm as an associate, practicing in general civil litigation.

    Hiring and Firing in Wisconsin, by Bradden C. Backer, Kim E. Patterson and Robert K. Sholl, published by State Bar CLE Books, received the 1997 Award of Professional Excellence in Publications from the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA). This award is ACLEA's top honor in its annual, national competition.

    Barbara S. Hughes, U.W. 1986, has joined Hill, Glowacki, Jaeger & Reiley, Madison, concentrating on elder law, estate planning, probate and trust administration and marital property.

    Christopher B. Hughes, U.W. 1980, has joined Stafford, Rosenbaum, Rieser & Hansen, with offices in Madison and Sun Prairie, as an associate practicing in municipal law.

    Daniel W. Hildebrand, of DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., Madison, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the ABA's Standing Committee of Ethics & Professional Responsibility.

    Jeffrey Hart, Seattle 1992, has joined Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C., Eau Claire, as an associate. Hart, a CPA, represents businesses and individuals in tax-related matters.

    John R. Jakubiak, Marquette 1996, has been commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General Corp of the U.S. Army Reserve. He is an associate in the Milwaukee law firm of Lindner & Marsack S.C., practicing employment and labor law and worker's compensation.

    Elisabeth Townsend Bridge, Nebraska 1981, and John E. Munger, John Marshall 1984, have become shareholders of Jansson & Shupe Ltd., Racine. The firm also has changed its name to Jansson, Shupe, Bridge & Munger Ltd., and continues its practice specializing in intellectual property law and litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition matters.

    Julia L. Jensen, U.W. 1993, has joined Tishman Speyer Properties Deutschland GmbH, New York City, a construction development and commercial property management company as legal counsel. She is on the law faculty of Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany; she teaches one section of an introductory course on U.S. law.

    John G. Jartz, Washington University 1978, has become senior vice president - general counsel, business development and corporate secretary of The Quaker Oats Co., Chicago, Ill. He previously was vice president - general counsel and business development.

    Mark D. Kelly, Marquette 1981, has joined Nilles & Nilles S.C., Milwaukee, focusing on intellectual property law, including patent litigation and prosecution, and unfair import trade practices. He formerly was an attorney-advisor with the U.S. International Trade Commission, Washington, D.C., and a patent examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Arlington, Va.

    Derek R. Kritzer, Marquette 1997, has joined Brennan, Steil, Basting & MacDougall S.C., Janesville. He will practice in individual and corporate business and general litigation.

    Daniel J. La Fave, Northwestern 1992 cum laude, Order of the Coif, has joined Quarles & Brady as an associate, concentrating in products liability and litigation. He most recently practiced with Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris & Rieselbach S.C.

    Kristine A. Long, U.W. 1992, an associate with Hurley, Burish & Milliken S.C., is now practicing under the name of Kristine A. Edwards due to her recent marriage to Gregory J. Edwards.

    The Manitowoc County Bar Association has elected these new officers: president - Peter W. Deschler; vice president - William R. Wick; and secretary/treasurer - Phillip R. Maples.

    Craig E. Miller, U.W. 1969, and Charles J. Stansberry, Marquette 1969, have relocated their general practice firm, Miller & Stansberry S.C., to 705 E. Silver Spring Dr., Whitefish Bay. The firm handles criminal trial and appellate matters and juvenile, family and civil litigation.

    Robert J. Marchant, U.W. 1997, has joined Bender, Levi & Buss, S.C., Watertown, as an associate.

    Kevin J. O'Connor, assistant attorney general in the Wisconsin attorney general's office, was presented with the Marvin Award at the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) summer meeting. The award recognizes O'Connor's outstanding leadership, expertise and achievement as chair of the Multistate Antitrust Task Force of NAAG, and his work leading numerous multistate enforcement actions nationally.

    The Oneida-Vilas-Forest County Bar Association recently elected these officers: president - Thomas Lawrence, Minocqua; vice president - Lawrence Wiesneske, Rhinelander; treasurer - C. Gordon Paulson, Rhinelander; and secretary - Alexander E. Brown, Eagle River.

    Joseph T. Kreye, U.W. 1997, has joined the Madison office of Otjen, Van Ert, Stangle, Lieb & Weir S.C., as an associate practicing in insurance defense and other civil defense matters. Brett D. Stacey, Marquette 1997, has joined the firm in its Milwaukee office as an associate practicing in insurance defense and other civil defense matters.

    Keith H.S. Peck, Marquette 1996, has joined Edmunds, Maki, Verga & Thorn, Honolulu, Hi., practicing class action and business litigation, medical malpractice and personal injury. He was of counsel with the firm's predecessor, Edmunds & Verga. Peck also serves on the litigation committee of the Hawaii ACLU.

    Catherine M. Priebe Hertzberg, U.W. 1994 cum laude, has joined Davis & Kuelthau S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate in the estate planning and probate section. She will emphasize the design and drafting of estate plans, marital property agreements, gifting strategies, informal and formal probate administration, guardianships and related estate planning issues. She previously was an associate at Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C.

    Shelly Principe, Marquette 1989, has joined the Chicago, Ill., office of Fragomen, Del Rey & Bernsen P.C., where she continues to practice immigration and nationality law. She previously served on the staff of U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold.

    Ross and Chatterton announce that Frank A. Ross, U.W. 1951, is practicing as a sole practitioner at 324 S. Hamilton St., Suite 202, Madison, and William A. Chatterton and Leslie Brodhead Griffith are practicing as a partnership at 324 S. Hamilton, Suite 201, Madison.

    Lois E. Rentmeester, U.W. 1984, has relocated her practice to 6000 Gisholt Dr., Suite 108, Madison.

    Robinson, Peterson, Berk & Cross has relocated its Green Bay office to the Jefferson Court Building, 125 S. Jefferson St., Suite 205. The opening of the office is marked by the addition of Lise Lotte Gammeltoft, U.W. 1976, who joins Avram Berk, U.W. 1975, in directing the office.

    Gary M. Ruesch, Marquette 1980, has joined Quarles & Brady, Milwaukee, as a partner. He focuses in labor and employment law and school law.

    Amy J. Sanborn, Cornell 1990, has opened Silent Partner Legal Services S.C., Madison. Silent Partner provides temporary legal work to Wisconsin attorneys.

    Sonnet C. Schmidt, U.W. 1993 cum laude, has joined Polsinelli, White, Vardeman & Shalton P.C., Kansas City, Mo., after several years of practice with an electric utility law firm in Washington, D.C. Joining the firm's utility/energy law group as an associate, she will continue her practice in energy, electric utility and regulatory issues.

    Steven P. Schneider, U.W. 1985, has joined Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, Detroit, Mich., as a partner. He formerly was a senior attorney responsible for tax and litigation matters with the Coastal Corporation's ANR Pipeline Co. subsidiary.

    David M. Simon, U.W. 1989 cum laude, has been elected a partner in the Chicago, Ill., law firm of Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon. He practices in commercial and environmental litigation.

    Gregory J. Strasser, Hamline 1988, previously with Terwilliger, Wakeen, Piehler & Conway S.C., Wausau, and Matthew Yde, Marquette 1989, previously with Ruder, Ware & Michler S.C., Wausau, have formed Strasser & Yde S.C., at 718 Grand Ave., Schofield.

    William H. Strohmeyer, U.W. 1996 cum laude, has joined Wells, Anderson & Race LLC, Denver, Colo., as an associate practicing in insurance and general civil defense. He previously was with Vaglica, Meinhold & Maldonado, Colorado Springs.

    C. Thomas Sylke, U.W. 1985, an intellectual property partner in Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee office, has been elected to the board of directors of the Blood Center Research Foundation Inc., the fund-raising arm of the Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin Inc. The foundation raises money for basic research in transfusion medicine and blood-related diseases.

    Deborah Kilbury Tobin, William Mitchell 1987, has joined the Equal Justice Coalition Inc. as executive director. Tobin continues to serve as pro bono coordinator for the State Bar of Wisconsin.

    Janice K. Wexler, U.W. 1979, has joined the Madison law firm of Krekeler & Scheffer S.C., focusing in family and juvenile law. Wexler also is a U.W. Law School lecturer for the legal research and writing program.

    Dennis M. Wesolowksi, Marquette 1979, formerly vice president and assistant general counsel of Tyco Toys Inc., has been appointed vice president and general counsel of Fisher-Price Inc., a subsidiary of Mattel Inc., following the merger of Tyco Toys with Mattel. He will be relocating to East Aurora, N.Y. He original joined Tyco Toys Inc. in 1989 as corporate counsel.

    Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek has promoted two attorneys from associates to shareholders. Craig A. Caliendo, Marquette 1989, practices primarily in commercial real estate transactions and financing in the firm's Milwaukee office; and Marcus S. Loden, N.Y.U. 1989, practices primarily in corporate law, taxation and estate planning in the firm's Madison office.

    Jay A. Urban, Marquette 1992, has been appointed as the first chair of the newly established Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers - New Lawyers Section. He is practicing plaintiffs personal injury litigation with Techmeier & Van Grunsven S.C., Milwaukee. Mary T. Lokensgard, U.W. 1993, has been appointed a member of WATL's Program & Seminar Committee for the New Lawyers Section. She is practicing plaintiffs personal injury litigation with Robinson, Peterson, Berk & Cross, Appleton. The New Lawyers Section will provide a means for members of WATL who are younger than 35 years old or in practice less than five years to exchange ideas and formulate programs to become better advocates of injured consumers.

    The Wisconsin Municipal Judges Association has elected its new officers and board of directors for 1997-98. Officers: president - Louis B.
