Active Reserve Colonel John S. Hoff, Southwestern 1975, has become Mobilization Assistant to Major General D. Bruce Smith, Commandant of the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, Ala. Hoff was awarded a Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal and reassigned from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio, to the Air War College. Hoff formerly was an aviation attorney in Chicago.

James E. Hough, U.W. 1967, is expanding services in lobbying and regulatory affairs with the addition of Robert I. Fassbender, San Diego 1983, and Patrick J. Osborne. The company's new name is Hough, Fassbender, Osborne and Associates Inc. Fassbender was a partner in Godfrey & Kahn's Madison office, heading up the government relations practice. He formerly was an in-house lobbyist with Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce. Osborne formerly served in Gov. Tommy G. Thompson's office as a legislative liaison to the State Assembly and policy director. He formerly was executive assistant for the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and deputy secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations. The firm is located at 44 E. Mifflin St., Suite 104, Madison.

Patricia D. McMahon, Emory 1968, recently participated in a workshop for judges at the Ministry of Justice Judicial Training Academy in Moscow. The ABA Central and East European Law Initiative selected her as a faculty member to conduct a criminal law training workshop for 70 judges from throughout Russia. She also received the Emory University School of Law Distinguished Alumni Award for 1996. She was selected to participate as a faculty member for the Emory University School of Law Trial Techniques Training Program in 1997.

Parise will concentrate in personal injury, probate and criminal defense. Parise was the full-time Kenosha County judicial court commissioner. He will remain as a part-time court commissioner.

Joseph A. Pickart, Iowa 1990, an associate in the Milwaukee office of Michael, Best & Friedrich, has been appointed a member of the ABA's Property Tax Subcommittee. Pickart practices in taxation law, emphasizing contested matters with local property tax assessing authorities, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and the IRS.
