(Taxation), has joined the Madison law firm of DeWitt Ross & Stevens

Faith L. Anderson, Marquette 1988, has been named
director of legal and compliance for American Airlines Employees Federal
Credit Union and has been admitted to the Texas Bar. She previously was
in private practice and a Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee for the Eastern
District of Wisconsin.

Michael D. Bernstein, U.W. 1985, has joined Buc
& Beardsley of Washington, D.C., as an associate. He will
concentrate in food, drugs and medical devices, advertising and trade
regulation law. He formerly was a staff attorney with the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, Office of the General Counsel. While at USDA,
he served twice as acting deputy assistant general counsel for food and
nutrition programs.

Steven F. Gruel, U.W. 1985, was presented with the
U.S. Justice Department's Executive Director's Award by U.S. Attorney
General Janet Reno in recognition of his outstanding performance as an
assistant U.S. attorney. Since 1991, Gruel has been assigned to the
Organized Crime Strike Force in San Francisco.
Kwame S. Green, U.W. 1995, has become an associate

Dennis M. Grzezinski, Yale 1975, has relocated his

Don S. Harnack, Harvard 1953, received the
Distinguished Eagle Scout Award honoring him for having distinguished
himself in his chosen profession of law and for his many community

U.W. 1979, have been appointed associate general counsels of

acquisition and divestiture work.
Therese M. Henke, Marquette 1994 cum laude, has

Frances J. Hill, U.W. 1980, recently was elected
president of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. ALSB is an
international organization of about 1,000 law professors in
undergraduate and graduate colleges of business. She also received the
1995 Service Award from the College of Business & Economics at
U.W.-Whitewater.
Carl D. Holborn, U.W. 1996 cum laude, has joined the
Kenosha and Twin Lakes law firm of Guttormsen, Hartley & Guttormsen
as an associate.
Christopher J. Jaekels, U.W. 1986, has been named to
the Wisconsin Joint Legislative Council Special Committee on Land Use
Policy. He is a shareholder at Cook & Franke S.C., where he

promoted to vice president - general counsel and business development at
the Quaker Oats Co., Chicago, Ill.
Melanie N. Aska Knox, U.W. 1983, a shareholder with
Godfrey & Kahn S.C., and Joan Gucciardi, an enrolled actuary and
president of Gucciardi Benefit Resources Inc., have published Pension
Distribution Answer Book: Special Supplement/Forms & Worksheets Book
(Panel Publishers, Aspen Publishers Inc., 1996). The publication
provides information to business professionals in pension planning and
compliance and benefits management. This is the fourth book that Knox
and Gucciardi have co-authored together.
Kohn Law Firm raised more than $600 during the
holiday season for the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee through the MATCH
(Milwaukee Attorneys Together Combating Hunger) program. Employees paid
$3 for every Friday they wished to dress casually during the holiday
season. Their total donations were matched by the firm.
Jay D. Koritzinskey, U.W. 1980, and Nanette L.
Karls, U.W. 1991, have formed a partnership known as Koritzinsky &
Karls, located at 414 D'Onofrio Drive, Suite 300, Madison. Their

book entitled Associations and the Antitrust Laws, recently published by
the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a partner in Keller and Heckman,

Molly Crooks McGee, U.W. 1991 cum laude, has become
a staff attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, in
Philadelphia. The position involves analysis of pro se appeals,
including prisoners' cases, and appeals in insurance cases. She formerly
practiced insurance defense with Smith, Stratton, Wise, Heher &
Brennan in Princeton, N.J., and intellectual property and civil rights
litigation at Keck, Mahin & Cate in Chicago.
Robert E. Meldman, Marquette 1962, a shareholder in

Daniel J. Miske, DePaul 1985, has joined the

John H. Murphy, Marquette 1934, a retired Milwaukee
attorney, received an honorary doctor of laws degree from the Milwaukee
School of Engineering (MSOE) in November. Murphy became active at MSOE
in 1941. He served as Regent until 1979; secretary to the Board of
Regents; and legal counsel to the university. He also taught business
law at MSOE and helped recruit the support that resulted in the
construction of the university's Walter Schroeder Library.
Alice A. Nejedlo, U.W. 1991, has become a
shareholder in the Racine law firm of Hanson & Gasiorkiewicz S.C.,
which has relocated its office to 2932 Northwestern Ave., Racine. The
firm formerly was known as Hanson, Gasiorkiewicz & Weber S.C.
Kristen Neyhart-Halliden, Thomas M. Cooley 1996 cum
laude, has joined the Law Offices of Michael S. Sperling in Milwaukee.

District Attorney.
Thomas G. Schmitzer, Hamline 1996, has become an

Bonnie L. Schwid, certified forensic document
examiner, presented a paper to the Fifth European Conference of Police
and Government Handwriting Experts in November in The Hague,
Netherlands. The paper was entitled "Medical Malpractice in the United
States." She also was a visiting expert to the University of Nijmegen,
Nijmegen, Netherlands, to discuss research on motor control and writing
complexity issues and their influence on forensic handwriting
identification.
Randall J. Shelp, U.W. 1994, has become an associate
with the law firm of Greenhalgh & Hoffman S.C., Baraboo. He will
engage in the general practice of law, concentrating initially in civil
litigation and real estate.
Sinitz Law Office Ltd has moved to 7000 W. North
Ave., Wauwatosa. John Sinitz III, Drake 1993, has
joined the firm as an associate.
Stephen P. Sinnott, Loyola 1976, has been appointed
as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the
Western District of Wisconsin. He served as an assistant U.S. attorney
for the Northern District of Illinois from 1987 to the present, serving
most recently as chief of the general crimes section. Prior to his
government service, Sinnott was in private practice in Chicago.
Peter M. Sommerhauser, Northwestern 1968, has been
named to the 1996 Examining Committee of Policyowners for the
Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. He is one of five appointees by
Northwestern to offer an impartial look at the company's operations.
Sommerhauser is a shareholder and member of the Godfrey & Kahn S.C.
Management Committee. His corporate law practice covers a broad range of
areas, including mergers and acquisitions.
Cody Splitt, U.W. 1949, now attorney emeritus, was
elected to the Outagamie County Board of Supervisors, serving on the
Legislative/Audit Committee. She also serves on the County Health and
Human Services Board.
Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990, and Nina M. Vitek,
Nebraska 1986, spoke to the ABA Family Law Section during its Fall
Meeting in Washington, D.C. The program was entitled "Jurassic Park
Technology: Establishing Parentage after Death." Stansbury is a
shareholder in the Milwaukee office of Maier & McIlnay Ltd. Vitek is
an associate with the Law Offices of Podell & Podell, Milwaukee.
Walter R. Stewart, U.W. 1982, has been appointed by
ABA president N. Lee Cooper to the ABA Standing Committee on Lawyer's
Title Guaranty Funds. He currently serves on the steering committee for
Attorneys' Title Guaranty Fund of Wisconsin.
Kristine M. Strodthoff, U.W. 1989, has become an
associate in the intellectual property practice group of Godfrey &
Kahn S.C. in the firm's Milwaukee office. She previously was an
associate with Merchant, Gould, Smith, Edell, Welter & Schmidt P.A.
in Minneapolis, where she handled domestic and international chemical
and biotechnical patent prosecution.
C. Thomas Sylke, U.W. 1985, an intellectual property
attorney with nearly 12 years of experience in patent and trademark
counseling, prosecution, licensing and litigation has joined Foley &
Lardner's Milwaukee office as a partner in the intellectual property
department. He had practiced with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C.,
Milwaukee, since 1985.
Barry W. Szymanski, Marquette 1973, has been
appointed as legal advisor to the Wisconsin EMS Association. He is a
police officer and former EMT who concentrates in EMS law.
William H. Theis, Northwestern 1970, LL.M. 1977,
J.S.D. 1982 Columbia, has become a member of Milwaukee's Shellow,
Shellow & Glynn S.C. A former tenured professor of law at Louisiana
State University Law Center, he has been practicing law in Chicago since
1981. He has taught admiralty law at Northwestern University Law School
as an adjunct professor since 1982.
