Recommendations for Federal Judgeship Vacancy Announced Today
5 applicants to be considered for new Green Bay post
MADISON, September 24, 2001 - The Federal Nominating
Commission announced today their five recommended candidates for the
newly created District Court in Green Bay. The recommendations to U.S.
Senators Kohl and Feingold were made following interviews with potential
candidates on September 23. The Senators, in consultation with
Congressman Sensenbrenner, will forward their final recommendation(s) to
President George W. Bush.
The Federal Nominating Commission, which received 18 applications for
the position, was charged with offering four to six recommendations.
Recommendations for Federal Judgeship in Eastern District of
Wisconsin (listed in alpha order):
Justice N. Patrick Crooks of Madison
Judge William C. Griesbach of Green Bay
Judge Elsa C. Lamelas of Shorewood
Atty. Thomas L. Schober of Green Bay
Judge Joseph M. Troy of Appleton
The Federal Nomination Commission will interview potential candidates
for the vacant Eastern and Western U.S. Attorney positions on September
30 before submitting its final recommendations to Senators Kohl and
Feingold on October 1.
The Commission is chaired by Marquette Law School Dean Howard
Eisenberg for vacancies in the Eastern District, and UW Law School Dean
Ken Davis for vacancies in the Western District. The Federal Nominating
Commission has been making recommendations to Wisconsin's U.S. Senators
since 1979.
