Supreme Court headed for Kenosha: More than 600 people plan to
attend
March 9, 2000 - Final preparations are underway for
the Wisconsin Supreme Court's arrival here on Tuesday, April 4, 2000.
This historic visit marks the first time in the history of the state
that the Wisconsin Supreme Court will sit in Kenosha County.
The Court will hear nine cases in Branch 3 of the Kenosha County
Courthouse. The cases will be heard at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 5, Thursday, April 6, and Friday, April 7. Each case
lasts one hour. While some of the cases are "sold out," there are still
seats available for others. Those interested in reserving seats may
contact Amanda Todd
at (608) 264-6256. There is no cost to attend. Each case will commence
with a short presentation by a local attorney who has studied the case
materials.
The visit will begin with a press conference in Branch 3 of the
Kenosha County Courthouse at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4. Immediately
following the press conference, the Court will take part in a courthouse
re-dedication ceremony.
The Kenosha visit marks the Wisconsin Supreme Court's eighth Justice
on Wheels trip. Since 1993, the Court has sat in Green Bay, Eau Claire,
Wausau, Milwaukee, La Crosse, Superior, and Janesville. The Court began
the annual trips in an effort to make its work more accessible to the
people of the state.
