Governor signs Life Planning proclamation
April 26, 2000 - Governor Tommy Thompson signed a
proclamation today recognizing May 1-5 as statewide Life Planning Week.
President Leonard Loeb and Life Planning Chair James Jaeger represented
the Bar at the signing in the governor's conference room. Doctor Ayaz
Samadani, president of the State Medical Society, also attended to show
the medical community's support of the campaign.

Jaeger presented the governor with the free Gift to Your Family
consumer guide, an easy-to-understand guide to aid the public with
their advance care planning needs.
Life Planning
2000 is a statewide educational campaign to encourage the
public to complete advance medical directives and to discuss their
wishes with their families before personal health crises arise. Hundreds
of volunteer legal and medical professionals teamed up to implement this
important program. in more than 45 communitites statewide. Free advance
care planning workshops and presentations will take place in early May,
in celebration of Life Planning Week.
Proclamation
WHEREAS, May marks the start of Life Planning 2000, the
collaborative, volunteer, statewide public service campaign to educate
citizens on the need to plan today for future health care decisions,
and
WHEREAS, Life Planning 2000 is the public service initiative of the
State Bar of Wisconsin who, in partnership with the State Medical
Society of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Health and Hospital Association and
receiving support from Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, seeks to
provide citizens with the necessary legal and medical information to
make advance planning decisions, and
WHEREAS, Life Planning 2000 will include free, public education
workshops, programs and events in over 40 communities across Wisconsin,
and
WHEREAS, this collaborative outreach effort will provide information
and assistance on legal and health care issues including Power of
Attorney for Health Care documents, Declaration to Physicians, organ and
tissue donation, do-not-resuscitate orders, and
WHEREAS, hundreds of volunteer attorneys, physicians, nurses, social
workers, health care providers and clergy will join together to educate
and assist citizens in preparing for their future health care needs
before personal crises arise,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tommy G. Thompson, Governor of the State of
Wisconsin do hereby proclaim May 1-5
Life Planning 2000 Week
in the state of Wisconsin, and I commend this observance to all
citizens.
