Recommendations for U.S. Attorney Vacancies Announced Today
8 Applicants to be recommended for two U.S. Attorney positions
MADISON, October 1, 2001 - The Federal Nominating
Commission announced today their four recommended candidates for the
U.S. Attorney position in the Eastern District and four candidates for
the Western District. The recommendations to U.S. Senators Kohl and
Feingold were made following interviews with potential candidates on
September 30. The Senators, in consultation with Congressman
Sensenbrenner, will forward their final recommendation(s) to President
George W. Bush.
The Federal Nominating Commission was charged with offering four to
six recommendations for each position.
Recommendations for U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of
Wisconsin (listed in alpha order):
Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven M. Biskupic of Wauwatosa
Judge John A. Franke of Milwaukee
District Attorney Joseph F. Paulus of Oshkosh
Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis D. Schmitz of Cedarburg
Recommendations for U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin
(listed in alpha order):
Attorney G. Brian Brophy of Madison
District Attorney Joseph F. Paulus of Oshkosh
Attorney Richard F. Raemisch of Waunakee
District Attorney John B. Van Hollen of Mason
The Commission is chaired by Marquette Law School Dean Howard
Eisenberg for vacancies in the Eastern District, and UW Law School Dean
Ken Davis for vacancies in the Western District. The Federal Nominating
Commission has been making recommendations to Wisconsin's U.S. Senators
since 1979.
