State Bar Seeks Nominations for 2001 Judicial Awards
MADISON, July 16, 2001 - The State Bar's Bench Bar
Committee is searching for two outstanding jurists to honor through its
judicial awards. Nominations are being sought for the 2001 Judge
of the Year Award and the 2001 Lifetime Jurist
Achievement Award. Both awards will be presented at the 2002
State Bar Annual Convention, May 15 - 17 in Madison at the Monona
Terrace Convention Center.
"We encourage the legal community and the public to submit letters of
nominations for these awards," says Attorney Nicholas Casper, Bench /Bar
Committee chair. "By recognizing individual judicial efforts and
accomplishments, we support the excellent and necessary work of the
judicial branch of our government system."
The Judge of the Year Award recognizes a jurist who has improved the
judicial system during the past year by his or her leadership in
advancing the quality of justice, judicial education, or innovative
programs. High ideals, personal character, judicial competence, and
community involvement are hallmarks of the Judge of the Year Award
recipient.
Past Judge of the Year recipients include Hon. Thomas Barland, Eau
Claire Circuit Court; Hon. Dennis Barry, Racine County Circuit Court;
Hon. Harold Froelich, Outagamie Circuit Court; Hon. Michael P. Sullivan,
Milwaukee County Circuit Court; and Hon. Gary L. Carlson, Taylor County
Circuit Court.
The Jurist Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a jurist with at
least 12 years' experience as a trial judge who has demonstrated
outstanding, long-term judicial service during his or her years as a
sitting judge. Past recipients include Hon. John A. Decker, Hon. Patrick
Sheedy, Hon. Peter Pappas, Hon. Mark J. Farnum, and Hon. P. Charles
Jones.
